I'm not going back a year to pick out their scoop posts I remember. I always follow them during coaching change season for the latest whether LSU is involved or not. They're particularly adept at breaking assistant hires and moves.

For example, I think they broke the news about Slade Nagle leaving LSU to be the Houston OC before anyone on the local beat even mentioned it as a possibility.

If sources are to be believed, he did make a decision and everyone is just keeping it under wraps for the sake of Kiffin coaching the Egg Bowl. LSU officials certainly are acting like that’s the case. They are the only ones who need to know that. It doesn’t have to be announced. If the sources are incorrect, then it’s malpractice on the part of those conducting the search for LSU.

Florida has always been the choice that made the most sense. Multiple personal connections including his wife, Spurrier, Lane growing up around Tampa, house in FL, connections with coaches there etc. It checks all the boxes of stadium, good school, fans, history, recruiting hotbed etc…..The one problem was always NIL. It’s a solvable problem and if they fixed it then Florida is a clear first choice

LSU is in a lawsuit with their coach and attempting to violate his personal life to get out of paying the contract buyout. LSU has a governor who threatened Kiffin’s agent and the entire coaching world. It makes sense from a perception angle for all the smoke to point to LSU at the moment. Choosing LSU makes him top villain in the CFB world, so if he winds up at Florida it lessens the blowback from a PR perspective. It makes it seem like he didn’t have his mind made up and wants to go home. Plus they were the third team needed to drive up the price.

Hasn’t the LSU smoke seemed desperately obvious?

Yes, that’s their particular expertise. You would expect them to be ahead of the game for assistants. That doesn’t translate to them being ahead of everyone else on head coaching searches.

They clearly have industry sources. My point was they're not a fly-by-night outfit that never breaks college coaching news.

Well, yeah. He did that whole ESPN documentary rehabbing his image. Everything he’s done at ole miss has been to improve his image after it was destroyed.
