With the way A&M has conducted this coaching search, and the fiasco surrounding Stoops, I don’t blame Elko for not telling his players he was leaving until an agreement was signed and it was 100% ironclad.
By that time, would Duke even want another school’s head coach to walk into their facilities and hold a meeting with their student athletes? Especially in the portal era.

Didn't their last coach have a NC before he got there. That along with bags of money still didn't get more than a good COVID season and mediocre other seasons.

Unfortunately this is the norm nowadays. Every big coach that leaves now just up and rolls out. Almost as if it is a requirement from the hiring school. Pretty sure BK and Lincoln Riley did this as well.

I mean it sucks and there's no real good way to do this. Hell I found out my last job was closing permanently when I tried to log in to my company email and it said my account didn't exist and then I went to our website and all of my location's information had been removed. It was still a couple of days later when we got any official word and it was a mass email with a PDF for us to submit to the Unemployment Office. The real world sucks sometimes.
