No way. What were they expecting from the guy? A bowl game?

I don't believe it either, but he did go 2-10 after taking over a 9-4 team.

Seems really crazy but the Washington Post is already pushing for his firing.

If their Athletic Department is struggling so much they're cutting programs I can't see them firing coach with millions left on his contract.

Leach? They rejected him and hired Edsall.

I doubt Edsall is the problem.

More likely, the issues are Crowton, whose offense didn't work there, and the AD who was dumb enough to fire Fat Ralph to replace him with Edsall despite going 9-4 last season.

If true, Ole Miss should be all over this coach.

I never understood why he left UConn for Maryland in the first place.

I doubt Maryland can afford to fire him. Same reason Dan Hawkins lasted so long at Colorado.

look at the rivals state page for Connecticut football.
any five star guys? any four star guys?
I just looked. ZERO 4 star. ZERO five star. three (3) 3 star.
That's right. of the TEN (10) football players rivals thought worth anything, 7 are two star and 3 are three star.
FWIW, if you look at the hockey and baseball lists, Conn will be better represented. millions of people and no 4 star football players. the best athletes do not play football in that state.
Hockey. baseball.

now look at Maryland and Washington DC.
any five star guys? YES! maryland has one
any four star guys? maryland has 8 4 star guys.
Did not check Washington DC.

now look at northern Va. it is 30 miles to Maryland from the big cities of Northern Va.

Maryland is in the ACC. a real football conference.

He is. In less than a year the players hate him and have NO respect for him.

Crowton didn't help.

I don't really follow Maryland, but it seems the Fridge was more of a players coach that let them get away with a lot and Edsall is more of a disciplinarian coach. That usually doesn't go well in coaching change overs (See when Saban replaced Shula and the 2007 seniors quit on him after the LSU loss).

Yeah, 90% of those guys aren't Edsall's. They were Friedgen's.

Edsall isn't going anywhere. If Maryland fires him after one season, they deserve to promote Crowton as their head coach and lose New Mexico St. style.
