if he's gone in 2 years that means we had 2 damn good defenses that got him a job else where. Would you rather mediocre Ds so no one "steals" our coach?

I'm assuming everyone is just ignoring this?

I don't here Steele's name coming up for new HC jobs like Walker. Walker is considered top shelf in the coaching circles..
Outside of the Pac-10 homers, I don't think I could fins any legit "coaching circle" that would take Walker over Steele.

What thread can I find this gossip in?

thats the scenario I've heard laid out several times.
Can you even guarantee he is gone in 2 years chicken? Many thought Pelini would be one and done. Instead he waited patiently for a job he really wanted. If walker makes the move here I'd imagine it will be to wait on the perfect job for him. That could open up in 2 years, maybe 4 who knows? Being scared to hire a big name because you're afraid of what may happen is silly.

you have a point but I hate seeing DC's shuffled in and out all the time when they're probably the most important position on the staff. I like Walker's style of D. I guess you do see more good DC's move around more than any other type of coordinator.
didn't NSU and New Mexico St. steal our coaches this year?

why don't you go school yourself then dipshit. Walker is pretty widely respected and has coached with some excellent defensive minds. If you really think Steele has a better track record as a coordinator then I don't know what to tell you

there's definitely not a guarantee but he's gonna apply for some jobs and there will be pressure for him to a get a job somewhere too.

seeing as the players turnover every 3-5 years, I don't see this as a negative. If your DC gets hired away as a HC, that means he's doing a good job as your DC and means its an attractive job for the next ambitious DC that wants to be a HC.

maybe thats the reason the contract has been sent back a time or 2. perhaps they are working on a guaranteed duration.
Like I said if he comes here I doubt he leaves for a non-BCS type job.

what coaching cirles highly regard Steele as a coordinator? You would think such a sharp tack under the great defensive mind Saban would be at the top of every list, why isn't he?
Also, i can't believe you haven't ruined this thread yet with your canned "Orgeron will get you put on probation" flame that you use every 3rd post. Way to restrain.

Where are you getting this?
Does Steele have NFL experience like Walker?
I don't know I am asking
Steele's resume looks better know because he has Saban on his resume. I am sure he is every good
Bottom line is this, he isn't available
We want Walker or Chavis

How long was Muschamp at Auburn? 2 years?
How long was Pelini at LSU? 3 years
It is not uncommon for top DCs to move on / up. Sure, there are lots that stay for longer, but it is not uncommon that they move.
I think it is more important to be able to tell recruits that LSU will get high quality DCs and defensive position coaches.

yes, he got choked on the Carolina Panthers sidelines by Kevin Greene
Posted on 12/22/08 at 7:52 pm to ApexTiger
the only time steele ran a D was as HC of Baylor and he was an epic fail there.
he was also once choked by kevin greene when he was LB coach for the panthers.
steele is a good position coach and very good recruiter. Saying he's more highly regarded than walker is asinine.

Walker --> UCLA:
Total D:
2006 - 35th
2007 - 29th
2008 - 48th
Steele --> Alabama:
2006 - 18th (FSU LB Coach)
2007 - 31st
2008 - 3rd
If you super impressed by Walker's NFL Pedigree, don't forget Steele's time w/ the Panthers.

Easily the laziest and dumbest way to judge a DC
