Didn't hurt Tuscaloosa or College Station
Were either of these schools competing against USC to hire a coach that was interested in living there?
For quality of life LA is a better destination than BR by a country mile, there’s no reasonable argument against this. Just the facts

our fan base is much worse than USC. Every coach knows if they have a bad season here there will be calls for his head from the majority of us
My main candidate is Kiffin, but if it's Aranda and he can get Tom Herman as his OC, I'm 100% for it.

What city in the SEC is some holy shite that city is great?

Does the coach have to live in BR? Live in Mandeville. Send the kids to St. Paul/St. Scholastica.

From an outsider's perspective, the expectations of LSU's fanbase combined with playing a brutal conference schedule every year is more of a turn off than Baton Rouge, a place I've been to and have no complaints about.
BR and Columbia are actually pretty similar in many ways

Does it hurt compared to Los Angeles? Sure, probably.
Does it hurt compared to Gainesville or Norman? I doubt it.
It’s better if you’re trying to spend the 10 million. If you’re trying to build generational wealth you could make the argument that somewhere like Louisiana is better given the difference in housing costs and particularly taxes.
Honestly though, I’m not convinced that the allure of a particular city makes as much difference as people think for these coaches. The exception would be guys who are taking jobs closer to their home/family. But I think the top tier hires care more about their chance of success, administrative support, money (obviously), past ties to a program, and a host of other things than they do about the perceived quality of a city.

Doesn't help but doesn't hurt that much. With that kind of money you can insulate yourself from any problems. The bigger issues are
We fired the last two coaches, both of whom won titles. Not that they weren't deserved, but it still will make a coach think.
The general long term dysfunction around the university and AD, including but not limited to the Title IX stuff.

Louisiana and BR are killing LSU.

Not to mention these dudes live in their offices. They are sunning at the beach outside of practice. Imagine passing up SE US talent to recruit that weak arse west coast talent.

If it was just a theme on TD, I would suggest there’s far too much political overtones thrown out suggesting an absolute lack of tolerance for any body that doesn’t have thoughts completely in line with the ultra right. In a sport that seeks to attract a majority of players who are persons of color, that’s a problem for a potential coach. While it is highly likely there’s a very vocal minority generating such dialogue, there’s an often used term being “perception is reality” that may be curbed in the future by better policing to assure sports discussions don’t drift off point.

I lived in Baton Rouge for a year.
Would never entertain that idea again.

Sounds like the shittiness of this administration so far.
