If Bama and Texas want anyone we sign in a hurry, they can simply outbid us and buy out the contract to take them away.

Well buddy the best available DC’s seem to run the 3-4 and I’m sure he can run a 4-3 if that’s the direction our HC wants to go in. Best I can tell the better defenses are running variations of everything to slow these modern passing games down.

I agree. Put the best 11 guys on the field and run whatever it takes to be successful. Aranda ran a lot of 4-3 early on because we didn’t have the type of players he needed to be successful. This is a get right hire for our HC. Get it right or you’re out of a job.

I live in Alabama. They are much like us they hate all of their coaches not named Saban. I kind of figure if the guy sucked he wouldn’t be the DC at Alabama. Seems like anyone that spends 2-3 seasons under Saban wants the hell out of there.

Each team ONLY GET 25 Scholarships a year there are a shite ton of athletes that are being missed. With the traditional bs stars ranking and coaches buy in on that crap has been shoved down everyone’s throat as the gospel. There are enough on the table for many programs.

Coaches, that makes a big difference- Texas can outspend us for assistants and they get to live in an objectively nicer town. Alabama, they are elite across the board, and being a coordinator there seems to be a fast track to a good HC job (plus, there's the hope that Saban will eventually step down).

After coach O hiring a guy primarily because he wants a 4-3, and then complete failure being the result, the 4-3 might not be as much of a stipulation this go round.. but IMO we truly need a DC that runs a multiple defense. It’s better for recruiting but even more so for schematics.
