When he took the job with LSU? If not, he must be feeling lucky...

seems like it chicken

then again if it was known internally you'd think strong would have waited a little longer, or maybe he did and got word he wasn't going to be the #1 candidate.

crazy shite all around

that may make a little more sense. it was a slight promotion to still be WR coach and passing game coordinator so i'm not sure that would be enough for him to leave urbz considering how long they've been together. I bet Mullen is gone; an opportunity to GTHO of StarkVegas he won't pass it up.

doubt it, not to the full extent and as a reason for leaving.

I think he knew about Urban's health issues, maybe better than anyone on the staff (he and Urban were close), but I don't think he knew this was coming so soon.

I don't think anyone did.

oh I don't doubt he knew ab Meyer have some type of health issues, but I don't think it was his reason for leaving b/c like you said no one saw this coming so soon. Can't imagine what it's gotta feel like to be a gator fan today. Lost Mullen, Strong, BG, Tebow, and then today this.

I dont think there is any doubt that he did. He basically just left his good friend for almost the same job.

Meyer quickly hiring a replacement like he did would make me think otherwise

Yeah, it has been a steep slope downhill for Gators fans since the SEC CG.

hell no gonzales didn't know

if gonzales knew, then charlie strong knew. and if strong knew, NO WAY he takes a louisville job when he would have been a SERIOUS candidate for the UF job

Of course he knew... heck if I knew something was up when we hired Gonzales then I am sure Gonzales knew more than I.

My quote from a while back.

quote:

I still say there has to be more to the Billy Gonzales hire than him just coaching the WR's. I just don't see him making a lateral move to LSU from Florida. I know people will say and have said that he was pissed at UM and left because he didn't get the job there. Well if that is the case why w...

so, what you are saying is Meyer knew about this weeks ago...and instead of coming out with it then, he waited till less than a week from his bcs bowl game to announce it. AND, either meyer told gonzales but not strong, OR strong knew about it and took the Louisville job anyway??

no way in hell

the fact that he hired a replacement at all shows he didn't know shite because Meyer himself didn't know. Lame ducks don't hire replacement WR coaches.

There is zero chance that the top program in college football over the last 5 years was going to hire a HC with zero head coaching experience. So why wouldn't Strong leave? He'd have to know the new guy would wanna bring his own guys in.

that couldn't be more wrong

and i'll say it again...whoever UF hires will create an opening somewhere else (if it wouldn't be strong). That opening is likely to be a better job than louisville as well.

it would make no sense to remove yourself from consideration for one of the best jobs in the country for a job at louisville

that doesn't always happen

coordinators often stick around to ease transition on one side of the ball or the other

please someone answer why in the hell Meyer would announce this less than a week before his team plays in a BCS bowl if he knew weeks ago??? Wouldn't he have announced it immediately following the SECG, OR make the the decision to announce after the bowl game? Why would he hire someone to replace Gonzales so fast if he knew he was leaving? What would the rush be? Especially, (by your train of thought) new coaches bring their "own guys" in.

All evidence points that he just made this decision.
