Here you go Dave. You're a great coach and have a more accomplished resume than your boss. So we're gonna designate you our HCIW. Just sit it out behind this unqualified dope for a couple years more.

Honestly it would be weird to appoint a HCIW when your HC is 1 year in and not that old.

I say you have to fire O now and move Aranda to HC. Its the only play that saves the program from complete destruction.

if Aranda actually like it here and is assured the job in 2 years then no way he leaves here to go be a coordinator anywhere else even for 3+MM

There is ZERO chance that O is getting fired this year. Give it a rest.

At that point, just fire O. It's not a Bowden --> Jimbo situation. O doesn't want to leave. Naming Aranda HCIW undercuts the current coach. How do we recruit with a lame duck coach that were just waiting to cut ties with?

Can’t do this. Make realistic statements.

I thought this was the case---totally unrelated to the current Aranda/A&M news. I thought he wasn't interested in the face-of-the-program responsibilities of a P5 head coach. Did that change?

Does Aranda want this? I imagine he wants a NFL DC job eventually.

You think we'd be sweating losing Aranda if we had a top flight HC? No. It would suck, but you'd expect your HC to go out and get his guy.

This entire mess was created by Alleva. Under his direction, the football program's most valuable coach isn't the guy at the top, as it should be.

Alleva has painted LSU Football into a corner and we either: suck it up and get through it as best we can, or, buy our way out from this mess and start over.

Sucks, but that's the way it is. When you make any person other than the HC the cornerstone of your football program, you're doing it wrong.

Joe Alleva has done this all wrong.

"Coach in waiting" arrangements only happen in situations that have a long-time head coach in a position to retire and/or depart on their own terms. I'm surprised people keep bringing this up.

Just think about it people. Imagine your employer hiring a guy to replace you, and giving him your title in waiting. Stupid on every level. Pretty silly.

While I think Aranda is an exponentially better asset to the program this post is mind blowing. In what crazy hypothetical is lsu or any of its leadership being given any sort of ultimatum whatsoever between the two coaches right now? Has Aranda in any way, shape, or form even hinted that he feels like he should be the HC at lsu now or in the future??

I think Aranda just wants to get paid like the best D-coordinator in the country at the moment and it seems by the accounts on here (for whatever they are worth) that his young family really likes Baton Rouge.

You can't get rid of O because he is doing a damn good job and the proof is Aranda didn't jump ship. Indeed, if he thought O was a sinking ship, Aranda certainly would have jumped ship at the first opportunity. Aranda likes the direction the LSU program is going and I do too. Indeed, it looks like O will be making all of his stupid coach O haters very miserable for very many, many years to come and that will bring me very much happiness and joy for many, many years to come.

Furthermore, Aranda hates the limelight. The last thing he wants to be is a head coach. Not to mention, he makes better money than most head coaches do anyway. Being the assistant head coach and the DC in the background out of the public's eye is his dream job.

If Aranda loves it here so much, why did it take a last second million dollar a year raise to keep him? That smells of "if the money is the same, I'd rather stay where I'm at".

For those who think O is so great, why are you willing to break the bank for a coordinator, and yet unwilling to put O's salary in the top half of the conference? Have you no confidence that O can do things on his own?

If we make him Coach in Waiting it will severely limit Aranda's recruiting by NCAA rules. Jesus. Does anyone on this site actually know anything about college football rules?

pretty sure any talk of being the coach in waiting is kept verbal, with the big $$$ as a sign that the administration intends to honor it. If they don't do so after the contract expires, I think he's out of here. Even given the money, if he has bigger aspirations than LSU DC at some point, he will move on.
