By this rationale, Nick should retire now. I mean just over a damn month ago he said...

The rational of having one of the worst defenses in the country the past few years? Give me a break dude.

I mean if we can't trust Mason then it's obvious that we can't trust Saban. So let's just blow defense up and say F it. Why bother parting with Pelini?

You are a fricking moron

He doesn't have the one attribute many posters want in a DC or OC.

Lmao... look at all closet racist showing their covert/subtle racism because the qualified black guy is about to get an opportunity to be the Defensive Coordinator at LSU.

Hmmm, most of the people against Mason would be ridin for Freeman, another “qualified black guy”. Please explain.

LSU could roll an upturned broom with a bucket for a head out there at DC and be much improved.

I like Mason. Think he would do well.

Cuz that all they’ve got. They learn the 1 word, they repeat it enough. They are right below booger eating. No one takes them serious. Rinse, wash repeat.

Who would want to come and coach here if O gets fired when it comes out that the AD and boosters have a tendency to not be behind their coach and help him do whatever he needs to be successful? Its working out great for Auburn, Tennessee, and Texas BTW.

tiger25: Lets step back a bit, Alleva gave Miles this huge deal and when he fired Les in September 2016, LSU owed Less some huge number and was on the hook for it. Les taking the Kansas job helped them and eventually they agreed to a lump sump settlement of a ton of money.

LSU and the boosters have been behind their coaches, Miles had among the highest staff salaries in CFP. Same with O, but again, LSU because of O's last 2 big hires has $6 million plus of "Dead contracts". So it is not that Woody and the TAF Money don't support the program, it is they are not willing at this moment to give O carte blanche with respect to Budget and contract to tie the AD to another Bo Pelini type contract, and another Linehan contract (he was making $800K a year). So for the next 2 years or so, however the payments are structured, LSU owes Bo and Linehan and estimated $6.2 million and you make 2 new hires and you sign similar contracts then you are on the hook for 12 million plus for 4 Coordinators, 1 DC and 1 PGC working for you and 1 DC and 1 PGC you are paying to not work.

Hypothetically, O gets canned next December and then you have to hire new HC and an entire new staff and to get quality Coordinators, you are going to have to sign Bo Pellini type contracts, for example.

At some point, those contracts are going to really hand tie the AD.

We just fired a white coach after one season! Wonder if that was racially motivated.

I think performance based. I have never heard any player who played for Bo, think Beckwith, Big Fav, Glenn Dorsey, etc say anything about Bo in that regard. Not true, just did not work out this time on the field.

Really beginning to think the same thing JK. Woody may be trying to get ahead of the game here on potential HC replacement for 2022. It may sound a bit like a conspiracy theory, but who really knows?

I will leave the Xs and Os debate to others. What I heard disturbing was Mason showing up late to a camp he hosted...U are trying to attract talent to Vanderbilt and u show up late to your own camp??? That's a red flag for me

Ewwww, no. Need someone that can prove he can at least win a game or two, even if it is with inferior players.

Well I appreciate the civil response. I mean I am just reading the situation and it suggest to me Woody and TAF making decisions with the possibility that in December 2021, a new HC would be needed. Well, that means more buyouts and entire new staff. Now, I hope that does not happen but I just think based on hearing Muschamp as CO-DC with Corey Raymond as CO-DC as an option being looked at and now Mason as DC, that is a clear signal that those 2 options do not put LSU on the hook for Bo Pelini type DC contracts.

You pay them what an average DC is making in the SEC, but you let SCAR and VANDY pay them via the buyouts they are paying for firing them. IF those 2 schools file a grievance, similar to what Arkansas did with Bert, LSU just says hey COVID-19 revenue shortfalls are constraining our budget, which can be factually supported.

So yes, seems to me these decisions being made might involve some contingency planning for next December.

Go get Freeman! This isn’t hard.

Marcus Freeman turned down Michigan State’s offer of their DC job.

Now LSU is not Michigan State but I can’t see him all fired up to come here knowing O is on the hot seat.

Oh that’s not a conspiracy theory at all. That’s common sense thinking.

If Scott Woodward is worth even one dollar of his salary you know he’s sitting in his office playing the long game and weighing these hires in the balance of the worst case scenario coming to pass next December.

We dont care that he's black you idiot. Many LSU fans, including me, are pushing for Corey Raymond to be our dc. Mason hasn't been a dc in 7 years and his vandy teams weren't exactly stoppers. frick off with your stereotypical, arse clown comment.
