hope he goes get a LB coach job at Sam Houston State so the rant will think he is a qualified college coach
What about him would make anyone think he is a bad or good candidate for a college coaching gig?

what about college football is harder than the nfl?

Many people on this board argue that recruiting is something JDR has not proven he can do successfully.
They don't consider that evaluating talent is the same on any level, and that if you win and evaluate talent well, it doesn't matter how shitty your personality really is. Look no farther than Nick Saban. He's condescending, arrogant, monotone, emotionless, yet he consistently pulls in top 5 classes.
They'd rather hire Chris Peterson or Brian Kelly who have feasted off of weak competition over JDR, who has been a pretty good professional coach during his tenure in Jacksonville.

Exactly. Saban's main recruiting pitch at LSU at least before he won a title was "i can get you to the NFL because i've coached there" and that was as a DB coach and DC only.
Del Rio was an all-pro MLB, Ray Lewis and co.'s LB coach on one of the most dominant defenses ever that won a Super Bowl, was a successful DC and made it to the playoffs multiple times as an NFL HC. No kids would want to play for him because he has never done booster luncheons at Utah State though, I guess. And he would have no idea how to find talent since he spent January-April every year scouting prospects who were 3-4 years older than the ones he'd have to scout for college.

I don't think it's harder but it is different I would argue. Though from the tone of your LB comment I guess you don't.
It's not like he was a successful NFL head coach though.
That said he could end up being a great college coach. Just seems silly to think his years at Jacksonville are indicators of being a good college coach or not.
I'm not against hiring him as the HC at LSU(if we had an opening) just think it's rather silly that he keeps being linked here bc of some daughter/step daughter thing.

its not certain that he'd be successful here but it isn't for any coach. We're not gonna get Urban Meyer or Saban here so its also a risk to have mid major/lesser BCS schools type coaches to come to the SEC with the big step up in competition. I'd take my chances with a "not successful" NFL head coach to be able to handle the tough SEC slate.
Obviously he's not the greatest head coach in NFL history but he hasn't been bad either. He's 57-55 with 2 playoff appearances and has been able to keep the same NFL head coaching gig for 7 years. Pete Carroll was 33-31 with 2 playoff appearances and he inherited a NE team fresh off the super bowl/Parcells management that was way better off than Jax when Del Rio took over which was 7-9, 6-10 and 6-10 the 3 years prior to his arrival.
He contacted LSU while Saban was still here to put his name up in case Saban left (which he didn't at that time), he was willing enough to meet with LSU secretly before we hired Les until Skip brough everything but a marching band to Jax and risked him losing his current job. I think that along with being on the hot seat in the NFL plus having lived down here before, having a wife from the area and a daughter currently enrolled at LSU doesn't make it the craziest thing in the world that he might want to come here.
I don't know why people are so offended by the notion of an NFL coach possibly having interest. Its either he would suck because college doesn't equal the NFL or he would never ever come here so quit having these pie in the sky dreams.

I agree with this but why not try for Bob Stoops worst he could say is no. I dont have a problem with Del Rio or others named I just think Stoops is a known quantity who could trade punches with $abun and Meyers both on the field and in the press. (As far as attention goes)
He prolly wouldnt come buy I would use the bama approach and back up the truck full of money in his yard.

that'll work too
I think a lot of people are going to shocked to see how shitty Les really was if we can get a real coach in here.

I would shite myself if we could land either Stoops or Del Rio in trade for Miles. Only hting tha would make it better woul dbe for Michigan to take him off our hands so we wouldn't owe him the remainder of his contract.
I'm delusional, time to go to sleep.

_______________
Del Rio is 57-55 and has never won his division. What makes him more desirable than Petersen, who has 2 Fiesta bowl wins, John Harbaugh, Rex Ryan, etc and etc?
And for those who argue that Jacksonville is a tough place to win I give you....Sean Payton.
Not saying he is coming but N.O. has not been a hotbed of success over the years.
ETA: Del Rio is 12-20 over the last two years, the relevant period for most folks here. Seems to me that he is running Jacksonville into the ground.

Not endorsing him. But the argument of JDR supporters in defense of his mediocre record is that he coaches in a place that is difficult to win due to the organization. N.O. is one of the most difficult places to win in NFL history, yet SP gets it done. JDR has 3 winning seasons in 7 years, 3losing seasons, including the last 2, and one 8-8.
JDR may be a decent coach but he is not the second coming of Bear Bryant that people around here think he is.

Del Rio may in fact be a good college coach, but he would need to surround himself with experienced college assistants.
Recruiting would not be my #1 concern as long as he works hard at it; my main concern would be player development. College players need great teaching and development of fundamentals, whereas NFL players generally arrive in the NFL fundamentally sound. He would have to adjust his coaching style to accomodate and motivate college players. Different deal than in the NFL. Finally, he'd have to get used to practice limitations to install his offenses and defenses - there is unlimited time in the pros, but not so much in college.
The biggest transitional issues are intangible ones that are not readily gleaned from a resume - time management skills, player development, motivational skill.

so we think we can get any NFL head coach to come back to college now? Lets be real.

How many years did Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Bob Sanders and Reggie Wayne play together in the Big Sky Conference?

again, your point is that there are better NFL coaches than JDR? Great.

FYI, you don't get to play ULL, Vandy, MSU, Washington, Tulane and La Tech in the NFL.

he already does in Jax. hell, he could bring his staff as is and we'd be bad arse.

player development hasnt been a problem for pete carrol and he came from the league. most of JDR assistants now in jacksonville are former college coaches...as long as he had good assistants i think he would do a great job

Damn! The FBI should investigate Skip for that "8 win roll-over" bullshite in Miles' contract. I smell collusion.
