Walt fricking Harris won the Big East with that program and Wannstedt couldn't do it once in six years with NFL talent.

Heck yeah, he has definitely underachieved at Pitt. They have the most talent in the BigEast, and it's not even close (at least according to recruiting rankings).
They've sucked while he's been there. They should be winning that conference every year IMO.

It was without a doubt fire worthy. Were top 15 in preseason with good talent, finished 7-5 in a crappy conference (went 2-3 OOC), losing every big game they played. Lost to Utah and Notre Dame, neither of whom are great, got blown out by Miami at home (terrible loss), lost to UCONN and got blown out at home against West Virginia in their rivalry game. Best team they beat probably was Syracuse.
And FWIW, I work for the athletic department here at ND with intramurals/rec center, and we had a new morning supervisor today, who actually is part of the chain gang for ND games (they stand on the visiting sidelines). And I asked him about the different coaches/teams ND played, and his opinions given he was actually on the field. He also has ref'd HS football in the area for 25+ years. And (keep in mind this is before we knew he was fired today) he said Wannstedt was one of the least engaging coaches he'd ever seen (HS and college) and by far the least engaging coach of any ND played at home this year (including the brilliant mind known as Dick Rod). Said it seemed like he didn't care, just stood back, and wasn't involved... didn't really do anything. It was very odd.

Pitt is a sleeping giant. The right coach can build a powerhouse there.

Totally agree. Leach or any decent coach would be retarded not to take this job. There's no competiton. Once you start winning, recruiting starts to improve. One can dominate that conference

This LSU fan would like to thank Dave Wannstedt for leading his underdog Pitt Panthers to an upset win over West Virginia in 2007 that helped get LSU into the BCNCG
