He is at the toughest school to win at in the SEC and had them at #1 2 seasons ago. Starkville is a shithole and Ms State has zero tradition and plays in the toughest division in cfb. With the resources at LSU, he would do very well. He is a diamond in the rough and should be a second tier candidate and ahead of Orgeron.

These have to be troll attempts by now, huh?

I mean no one could seriously think that Mullen is a viable candidate for a top 5 job, HUH?!

Well people seem to think Orgeron is a viable candidate, so I'll allow Mullen

still true, though.

He identified Dak as his franchise qb when others wanted him at hback

He's legit, just in a really tough spot with every other school in the West having far more resources than State. Again, he had freaking Miss St at #1 in the country. That's never happened in history.

top 5 job

name the five.

Bama
Michigan
OSU
Texas

that's a given top 4. Then you have USCw, Florida, UGA, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, LSU, Penn State, etc who all also think they are top 5, but only one of them can be. You'd rank LSU over each of those schools, or are you saying one of the first four I've listed isn't top 5?

I guess Mullen would be ok, but what an unexciting hire that would be. Why hasn't he already gotten a better job?

I like Mullen and think he would be good. He should have left Miss St. after 2014

He's a proven head coach with some skins on the wall. People give O a pass on only winning 28% of his games at Ole Miss, because....Ole miss. State is a worse job than Ole Miss and Mullen has a 60% win percentage. The West is also the best it's ever been during Mullen's tenure.

People are sour on him because they are in a rebuilding year. When you look at the big picture, though, he's a better candidate than Orgeron and is doing way more with less than most coaches in the nation.

I seriously believe that Dan Mullen has some cousins that post on TD, that keep coming once a week to promote him as a candidate. Trying their hardest to see if they can gain some sort of traction for him.

He lost to S. Alabama, despite having a higher level of talent than them. They've looked like garbage for most of this year. He wasn't even interviewed by Florida when they made the Muschamp hire, and again wasn't interviewed previous to the McElwain hire. McElwain being an offensive minded head coach, tells you a lot when they still didn't even interview Mullen.

The Dak argument... Maybe Dak is just a super talent at QB, that made Mullen look a little better than what he really is. I mean, Dak is doing well in the NFL as a rookie. If Dak was just simply "coached up", he would have been stellar in college only to falter in the NFL. E.J. Manuel, Christian Ponder, Manziel, etc. are all QBs that looked great due to their collegiate coaching, only to fail to produce in the league.

With Dan Mullen... Well, maybe he at least does in fact have the chest to coach at LSU.

But... he certainly doesn't have the NECK.

Saban was an unexciting hire. He was barely breaking even at Mich State. Mich State has way more history and prestige and East Lansing is a better town than Starkville. If you've ever been to Starkville, how could you convince a high-profile athlete to live there?

He came into the SEC when Saban had Bama at it's zenith, Auburn and LSU were also going to NC games. Winning at a .600 clip at that dump is nothing short of terrific.

Hey look, 13 idiots downvoted

Besides Saban
Mullen is currently the second best Head coach in the SEC
What he has done at state is amazing, anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool

6 bowl games in 7 years
Before him State went to 13 bowl games in its 100+year history

Had State ranked No. 1 in the country which was never done.
Beat LSU for the first time this century

The guy can develop quarterbacks. Would be a great hire if Jimbo falls through

Jesus fricking Christ. Our fan base is so fricking stupid. People act like Mississippi State should be dominating the west. Since they aren't mullen sucks. They are the worst program in the West and this is the first year they will finish last under him

I'm not saying he is my #1 candidate, but compared to O, he's Vince Lombardi.
