I agree. Dan Mullen would be great with real talent

I agree with that also, but it seems he can't pull top talent. If he was a charismatic recruiter, which you have to be if you want to compete at the top of the SEC, then he would be getting better classes even at Mississippi St.

He wasn't even interviewed by Florida when they made the Muschamp hire, and again wasn't interviewed previous to the McElwain hire. McElwain being an offensive minded head coach, tells you a lot when they still didn't even interview Mullen.

There's been talk of bad blood between Mullen and Jeremy Foley for years. Even this year when State's AD was named as Foley's replacement, Mullen called it a "lateral move".

A Gator fan might know more details, but Mullen was never getting an interview at Florida and it didn't have to do with his coaching abilities.

Ppl don't think Mullen is a viable candidate, because he isn't

Great rebuttal there ole chap. You should have compared and contrasted their records at schools in Mississippi, though.

I started a similar thread last night because I think Mullen is a strong coach but got downvoted to the max by these football experts.

He's legit, just in a really tough spot with every other school in the West having far more resources than State. Again, he had freaking Miss St at #1 in the country. That's never happened in history.

I have to give Mullen serious credit for that. He may do some bonehead stuff at times, but I never thought it was possible for State to be ranked #1 in football in a million years. And they were #1 for about a month too. People don't realize the limitations of coaching at Mississippi State. I'm not saying I want him for LSU, but State is a losing program overall and he has taken them to about 1/3 of all their bowl games in the program history.

Mullen is the sexy pick for people that want to show off their football acumen. People in the know, know he is a good coach despite that he coaches at Mississippi St. Do these same people really deep down want him to be LSU's next head coach? HELL NO!

I wouldn't be against it. You give Mullen the same staff as Coach O and we should see much better results long term with Mullen.

If this is true, and if Orgeron becomes HC and stays, LSU is headed back to the 1990s.

frick that.

Yet some of these same people think Orgeron should be a viable candidate.

If we're measuring wins by potential division titles, then sure. However, if we're talking about winning overall then I would disagree.

Vanderbilt is handicapped by admission standards, and Kentucky is a basketball school residing in a relatively weak recruiting region when compared with the rest of the conference.

Mississippi is one of the most talent-laden stats in the country. There are only three major programs in the state and Ole Miss has never been a juggernaut.

Sure, make all the jokes you want about Starkville, but Mississippi State's athletic program has fared well compared to schools with seemingly superior resources.
