Ive always liked him and it seems that he has done a good job at a place like Miss St.

Did he ever apply anywhere else or be rumored to go anywhere bigger in his time there? just seems odd that he missed his window to jump up a step, especially with a once in a program type player(Prescott)

He was at the peak of his success at State when the Florida job was open, plus he was a QB coach at one time for Florida...and when job became open he didn't even get a sniff. Something fishy about that

He has been trying to get out for a few years now. Just getting passed over. Didn't even get an interview with Florida where you would think he'd have been a fit.

well his in game coaching can be head scratching........ 4 straight runs into the mouth of our defense on the goal line to lose the game.

I was always confident that Les would out coach Mullen...... that really speak volumes.

Unless he is fired, which may happen, he will not leave MSU. Wife loves it there

I seem to recall he was trying to get out last year. Think he went for the Miami job and at least one other but didn't go through.

I have generally thought he has done a good job as well but acknowledge something just doesn't feel right about him getting passed up for other jobs. Guessing he winds up just staying at MSU for a while unless he really starts winning there.

He never really considered any other jobs until he interviewed with Miami. They thought he was egotistical and that was it. And then they came calling again. Dan Mullen really liked Starkville. His family became a real part of the community, and that is where he wanted to raise his young kids. He even moved his wife's parents to Starkville from PA.

As far as Florida, there was bad blood when he left FL to Miss State. Now it would be different since his AD is going to take over after Foley.

I think now would be the time he moves on. His AD is gone, they did not do his annual extension (no personnel contract in MS can be longer than 4 years and they add 1 year to it every year), they do not pay his assistants to stay (3 defensive coordinators in 3 years), he has a new agent (Sexton), and you can only do what he did there with 2 & 3 star recruits. Took them to #1 for 5 weeks and developed the 3 star Dak Prescott into a starting NFL QB.

SO, now is the prime picking time. He may listen to offers and start actually showing interest to other options.

Also, if you wanted to keep as much as the staff at LSU as possible, he would be a good choice since he is not attached to his defensive staff. And he can develop talent. Just a seed

If it is not Herman, Petrino, or Petersen then it should be Orgeron, very simple.

Has Dan Mullen REALLY done all that well? I outlined all of this in a previous post, but he ALWAYS schedules 4 dogshit non-conf opponents he can generally beat (S. Alabama being an exception this year). He plays Kentucky every year (one of the few programs worse than State) and generally finds a way to scrap together a few wins vs. bigger SEC opponents who are down that particular year. Outside of 2014 (where everything fell right for them), he's beaten exactly 2 SEC teams who were ranked at the time.

Mullen hasn't been horrible at State, but if we are going to go one state East to get a coach, get Hugh Freeze. He's got more big skins on the wall in 4 years than Mullen has in 9.

Mullen is one step from full on mutiny by the Mississippi State fans. Go to the Sixpack Speak board and see what they think of him. They would run him out of town on a rail if they had their way.

He had Dak. He was average before then and is back to average now.

Just like Chizik had Cam.

It would be hard for me to consider a coach that may well not have his contract renewed at the end of the season.

I don't want him here but I'm all honesty, being average at state is an accomplishment

Because he gives no effort in recruiting and his buddies are assistants to our worst positions on the field. He never blames himself and always says it's the players. We are thankful for what he has done but he is about to tear down the program he built because he hates to recruit. We pay you 4 mill a year for you to coach and recruit.

Dan Mullen is not a great coach. He hit the lotto with Dak.
