It’s not a buyout but he gets Nike stock as part of his compensation that he would lose if he left. Rumored to be like $30 mill worth of stock

His winning percentage is 2% less than Nick Saban at Bama. The greatest run of any coach of all time

In what universe is an .857 win % underachieving

He has a great job, makes good money, and has an endless supply of NIL cash because Knight will not go to his grave before buying a championship. Why would he leave ?

When I found out he has a 20 mil buyout to leave I backed off him BUT he grew up in Missouri and most of his coaching has been in the south and maybe he’s starting to feel the problems with having a superior team but having to travel to away games in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with college students.

No doubt Lanning is a good coach/recruiter.

However, winning consistently at LSU is no easy task as BK soon found out. Oregon, ND, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, etc rarely face >2 high ranked teams in the regular season…much easier path to playoffs. SEC is a gauntlet with many great coaches/teams.

There’s no public record of Stock. I’m not saying it’s not true, but it’s speculation and nothing verified. It’s also wouldn’t be a “buyout”. Any school wouldn’t be buying the stock out.

Lanning isn’t walking away from 30+ million of stock without being compensated accordingly.

The new school isn’t responsible for paying his actual buyout either. He’s the one on the hook for that $20 million.

It doesn’t matter. End result is the same. It’s cost (or opportunity cost in the case of stock) that you have to cover in the contract to make it worthwhile.

Why on earth would he leave Oregon? He makes a fortune and only has to play 2 real games per year. He’d be an idiot to leave

You think he is gonna walk away from it? No, he will expect whatever school that wants to hire him to compensate him for it. Dan Lanning isn't happening, its a pipe dream. There is a greater chance that Saban is the next coach than there is of Lanning being the next coach.

I don't think that is his buyout. Understand that his UO salary is only one part of his compensation. He has a deferred compensation package from Phil Knight/Nike. It is significant. I don't when it matures, but it currently holds him at UO. He won't leave until that deferred compensation matures.

Lanning would expect upgrades out the wahzoo and Phil Knight isn’t coming with him.

Just a very unlikely hire. Oregon is not going to let him go after losing their last two coaches the way they did. He is also pretty darn happy in Eugene Oregon.

And Nike money will not allow Lanning to even consider LSU.

Again I like him but do I like him enough to do all it would take to pull him? Has he shown enough yet to justify it? Probably not

Lane would be costly but has a long track record of offensive success so it’s a little more easily justified

Beating Purdue, Northwestern, UCLA, Rutgers, Minnesota doesnt really move the needle for me.

Lost to indiana at home, got blown out by ohio state in the playoff, lost to washington twice in the same year, favorites in both games.

Sorry just not that impressed by the resume. Theres hundreds of coaches in the country you could give Oregon’s resources and schedule and they would spit out a 10 win playoff team every year.

Yeah I think his contract at Oregon makes it near impossible. They made sure they weren’t going to lose someone after being embarrassed by Taggart and cristobal leaving.

The key point we should be focusing on with lanning is that he would be near if not top the list now when we wouldn’t even consider “degrading” ourselves to look at him when he was hired 4 years ago

I’d love Lanning and have said it’s not happening. I’m just speaking to this “stock” that’s not public or verified.

You gonna fund it? Otherwise, it’s nonsense to think he’s coming
