Curious why CSU negotiated the buyout

shite CSU only caved on $500,000 of that $7.5 million buyout. That AD held McElwain to the contract he signed

Miles' buyout is zero dollars for any other team except Michigan. And 1.5 million for Michigan.
So it is actually a great negotiation.

I like Les's Mich buyout. Sure it won't make much of a dent if he leaves but it says we don't need to hold our coaches hostage.

Who wants to keep a coach who doesn't want to be there?... would be a toxic situation.
CSU played it about as well as you could have IMO... they played hard ball with UF and JM and came out with several million.

Yep, and as my other post topic stated it would be funny if csy somehow got Boom. UF would be paying both programs coach plus buyouts and have to play them next year and if CSU somehow beat uf it would be a complete PR nightmare.

Idk a lot about coaches contracts, so help me out here. Why is his buyout to go to another school so low, but his termination buyout is through the roof? Is Alleva that dumb or am I not understanding this? Sounds like Les makes out like a bandit no matter what. He can leave to go to another school whenever he wants with very little buyout, but LSU has to pay him 15M+ for termination?

CSU made out like bandits. I don't know why the coach signed such a deal to begin with. That is a very high buyout for being there for 3 years.

Yes they did. I couldn't believe it when I read the buyout number. The CSU president should be commended for playing hardball. Of course, it's easy when you're dealt 4 aces.

Contract Law. Not sure about how it operates in Colorado, but I'd expect the buyout clause to operate similar to a liquidated damages provision. Courts generally frown on enforcing them, especially if they appear as a penalty. CSU would have to prove that they expect to lose the full value of the buyout in order for a court to uphold the contract. Most likely a court would blue pencil the clause down to a more reasonable figure. Add in the cost and time of litigation and it serves both parties to settle. Then again, my contracts final isn't for another week so I could be way off base lol.
