Could it be that LSU floated Strong to keep pressure on Texas to keep him?

Could be a masterful move. Pump him up in the press, make it look like he is our target, making it harder to fire him knowing we have a better shot at Herman if Strong keeps his job.

You're overthinking, it was Strong's agent

Youre probably right, it most likely was his agent. No one ever said it was LSU. It was typical "unnamed sources" that said he would be near the top of our list. I am probably overthinking this. Probably giving our admin too much credit.

There is a much greater chance it was done by somebody with a website looking for clicks.

It could be that LSU just has some stupid people involved in this.

Only thing is Texas is willing to gift wrap him to us, not hold onto him. How ironic we may even think to hire the coach that pulled those sleazy recruiting gimmicks on us at the last minute.

That would be masterful, so the answer must be that the rumor did not come from LSU. We have no masterful negotiators in our Athletic Department.

Strong will not be coaching at UT in 2017 you can bring that to the bank, from what I have been told by someone in the know at UT there isn't anything that Strong can do at this point to save his job because of the loss to OU. I was told UT doesn't want to lose Herman to LSU because they don't feel they will get another shot at him if they do.

He also said if they are in the race for Herman "which he said they will be" they will not lose Herman to anyone! I believe him.

No, would be opposite. If Texas thought LSU was interested in Charlie Strong it could make it EASIER for Texas to fire him. The possibility of Strong getting another HC job at a top tier program would make firing him easier because it would likely significantly reduce how much money Texas would owe him on a buyout.

So Texas could fire Strong, hire Tom Herman and then save a ton of money on Strong's buyout if LSU hired him.

I think it's funny that Texas always says they can outbid anyone for the guy they want yet I have not once seen them successfully do so.

Texas is a cesspool playing in a conference that will be dissolved as soon as their contract is up. UT is not near the destination job people think it is.

Texas voted against Big XII expansion to prevent Herman from his $5M bonus and to keep him available if Skrong gets canned.
