Convince me that our next coach shouldn’t be a coach on the offensive side of the ball

It’s finally time for LSU to hire someone as the head of the program that has his own philosophy for the offense.
This isn’t complicated, in my opinion.
CFB is becoming the Arena League. If you don’t have a consistent scheme that can win against Alabama or Georgia, you’re just playing for a better bowl game.
This is even more important at LSU where we’re always had built in problems finding in state QBs and OL. It’s literally our only recruiting disadvantage.
Nail down the offensive side of the ball at the top that can sell our program to those elite out of state QBs and OTs and there will always be enough talent for us to be competitive on defense.
For the love of God, Woodward, don’t pull an Alleva and bring in someone that will be totally dependent on hiring OCs that will leave after one good season.

And you can keep Peetz as OC because he won't be calling plays. Let him be OC/PGC... Saves the buyout.

One could argue that cfb being dominated by offense makes a prime defensive mind all that much more valuable
A new hot shot OC comes along every year but the defensive guys are few and far between

CFB has been dominated by defensive coaches recently. So you draw the conclusion that, not only do we need an offensive coach, but it’s imperative that he needs to coach the opposite side of the ball that all the dominant coaches coach.
Nick Saban
Kirby Smart
Ed Orgeron
Dabo Swinney
9 national titles there, as well as the current dominant team. You have to go back seven years to find an offensive coach in the winners circle.

It’s dominated be defensive minds because you need to be a great defense to combat high level offenses.

This is my view as well. You need someone who can keep today's offense in check at least to some degree. Those guys are more rare than good OCs

I don’t think it matters as long as the new guy hires the right coordinator for whatever side of the ball he doesn’t coach.

I’ll play devils advocate.
It’s a lot easier to find an assistant coach that can run a modern offense than it is to find an assistant coach who can stop a modern offense.
A brilliant defensive mind as the head coach means you’ll be looking for the easier of the two halves.

In fairness, Urban would probably have another title or 2 if he hadn’t left.

In all honesty my view is it just needs to be someone who has a clear philosophy and vision and knowledge about one side of the ball. No more CEO recruiters with musical chairs at the coordinator spots.

Petition for CottonWasKing to replace Larry Leo. Man’s has a way with the words

Because defense wins championships. I.E SEC domination over the last two decades. How many B12 ships have been won with their offensive minds??? I’ll wait for your mind to be changed.

Dabo isn’t a defensive coach.
Saban saw the trend and Alabama has become an offensive juggernaut. That’s aside from the fact that he recruits at such an unprecedented level at every position it’s almost unfair to compare anything his teams do to anyone else.
I wont even respond to the inclusion of Orgeron on that list
Kirby is the only true defensive guy at this point and his teams haven’t actually won anything and have always been eliminated by the offensive fun shows.
I used to think the same way you guys are, but CFB just isn’t the same as it was even 5-10 years ago.
And my initial post was talking about the RECRUITING implications of having an offensive guru at HC.
LSU generally needs to go out of state to sign elite QBs and OTs. Make the face of the program someone that will consistently bring those guys to us.

Oh yeah? Well, Saban probably would have had two more if HE hadn’t left.

You’re right.

No defensive mind is actually stopping the modern offenses, not even Bama with all that talent. The cards are just stacked against the defenses now, it’s not really about someone figuring them out IMO.

I used to think this way.
But I’m focusing on the draw for recruits. LSU will always have elite defenders. QBs and OTs want to sign with a HC who gives them a consistent and known system.
Make BR a destination for elite QBs and we will be the next dynasty in CFB and I think that’s a certainty.
