Saban is 100% a defensive guy who hires good offensive coordinators which is the opposite advice given by the OP and you. Don’t try to rewrite history because it goes completely against your narrative. The new coach just needs to have one side of the ball locked down and it makes zero difference which.

Defense wins. That is why Bama and Clemson have dominated recently. That is why Oklahoma, Texas, Ole MIss, etc. cannot win at an elite level; they cannot stop anyone.

Saban also has them lining up because of the sick amounts of talent at your disposal, it’s a direct feeder into getting a high end power 5 job.

Sark was just a few years removed from showing up drunk to practice…and he’s now the HC at Texas

How am re-rewriting history?

Saban brought in Kiffin to modernize his offense, then Sark because he knew the rules of CFB were putting defenses at disadvantage.

Sure Alabama’s defenses are good but that’s because they are 3 deep with five stars at every position and they still get lit up by the Burrows and Lawrences of the world.

They win primarily with offense at this point. Hell they had a WR win the Heisman last year.

Saying Saban is a defensive guy so that’s how we should build our program is completely ignoring what Saban has actually done with his own program since 2014.

Manziel in 2012, Gus and Auburn 2013, and Freeze with OM in 2014 and 2015 brought Saban into the new era of CFB, it’s time for LSU consistently be among the elite offenses if we want to become a top 5 program again.

I'm not convinced offense or defense matters as much as it needs to be someone who has proven very good on one side of the ball. Give me a guy who shows he knows how to gameplan and adjust. You can hire an elite DC to compliment an offensive guru at HC and vice versa. You're going to struggle if you need to find a guru at both coordinator spots.

Saban is not O genius

His genius is in adapting to exploit ever changing game of football.

Their origin from O or D matters less.

Saban's understanding of defense also helps him identify those offensive coaches based on what works against his defense.
