Colorado would be happy with somebody from Eastern Washington or North Dakota State. Whomever gets hired should insist on a big payout for the first couple years though.

Screw this BS. He was given a raw deal and was f-cked by the admin from the get go.
He came into a huge mess post Hawkins and had no realistic shot at early success.
The facilities are behind most Pac12 teams partially due to all the campus rape issues the last several years destroying alumni giving.
He had the smallest budget of BCS teams for his coaching staff and was the lowest HC salary out of all BCS schools. He only made 750k per year which is lower than many Sun Belt HCs and even some coordinators at BCS schools.
Plus they are a state with little talent to recruit from and they are transitioning to Cali from Texas as their major source of players which takes time due to having to build relationships with all the high school coaches.
They seemed to be slowly improving by the end of the year (especially when Hirschman became starting QB) and he has done an excellent job restoring the teams reputation by getting their grades way up and getting rid of thug trouble makers that had been causing so many issues over the years.
BTW, you people who think he was hired b/c he is black are idiots.
That school is going to be a graveyard until the admin actually gets behind the team and shells out the money for facilities and a budget that allows the HC to hire the staff he wants.

Nobody's going to argue that Colorado doesn't handcuff the football program but he was a career position coach that was a crap hire to being with. A 4-21 start isn't going to get you year 3 at most schools.
They lost to Washington 38-3 two weeks ago. Just because they stayed close to crappy Utah doesn't mean they've improved.

Does that score look bad? Sure. But they were slowly getting better. The offense was awful vs Wash due in large part to Hirchsman being injured. Once they let the sophomore take the reins from junior transfer Jordan Webb the offense started to come around.
They simply do not have the talent to compete right now and that is directly related to how horrible Hawk was at bringing in worthwhile talent.

Hawkins didn't leave much for Embree to work with, but didn't he have a lot of assistants leave during his tenure largely due to relatively low salaries?
I don't know if that's true or not. I just remember Tom Luginbill mentioning on Signing Day one year that Hawk had trouble convincing talent to come to CU because he couldn't convince members of his coaching staff to stay.

BTW, CU only had 8 seniors this year. It was their youngest team since 1996.
