OM was his first shot as a HC. He's admitted to what he did wrong there, and has changed his ways.

Then he needs to prove what he's learned at a lesser school, not LSU.. LSU is not a training ground for failed coaches.

I agree. Good coordinators aren't gonna just stick around for years at a time.

For my own mental health, I have to assume that the comment posted by Random was just at face value. Yes, at this point O is doing great. That doesn't mean he's the front runner by any means

If he was a plain old white guy no one would even be considering him

He's done a great job as you said of winning the PR battle. Getting the former players involved, opening up practices to warm the media to him, shite like that

You can tell he's been practicing for THIS moment for a long time. But that doesn't show me he can sustain a program and the fact that he refuses to go to a lower level to prove it shows me that he's not really sure if he can do it either.

Really? This is what a Pro-O guy is using against me?

I'm Pro-O in the sense that I want him to succeed. I would not give him the job right now. I want to see how he does the rest of this season. I don't see how hoping that our current head coach does well is an emotional or reactionary trait.

Why? He does nothing now the way he did it then. Why would I care about things he no longer does that happened a decade ago?

I don't believe that's a sustainable model for success at this level of football. What happens when one or both assistants bolt and we're not able to replace them with top assistants? It's a house of cards at best.

Hire the most qualified guy that has a vision for his team and has proven he can skillfully execute that vision. Instead you want Coach O to be a figurehead that lets his assistants do all of the work for him, just so we can hang on to his recruiting. Coach O is a great recruiter but we can get another great recruiter. We need a HC.

Who has done that who is an option? Jimbo may be the only one in the country and even he has doubts around him due to he recent record. Herman has not proven anything.

I feel like stuff like this is put out by the Athletic Department or boosters to gauge fan interest. I love and support O, but Hell Neaux to Oeaux! I want him back as DL coach and Asst HC where he should be and needs to be. Don't buy into this stuff or keep pushing it. The more this gets out, the less likely O is to return if he doesn't get the HC spot.

Well you brought up usc so his only head coaching stop would seem relevant. If he's learned so much then why are no power 5 jobs knocking his door down? He should show what he's learned at a lesser program for multiple years before he's handed a job like LSU.

Interesting excerpt from Alleva's letter to LSU fans yesterday about the UF game:

"Speaking of the Tigers, how about their performance in Ed Orgeron’s LSU head coaching debut against Missouri? Coach O and his staff had the Tigers prepared to perform at a premium level, and the 42-7 win featured 634 yards of total offense – the most-ever by LSU in an SEC game.

We’ll look forward to seeing you this Saturday night in Tiger Stadium when Coach O – our very own “Bayou Bengal” – leads the Tigers against Southern Miss!"

Lol you think everyone loves him just for bringing old players and opening practice to the media?

How about a SEC record of yards in a game? How about an open offense. A shortened practice schedule that our players are raving about?

Saban has consulted him not once, but twice on how he violated his defense.

That tells me everything I need to know.

I hope he does well too, but who this team hires as head coach and how this team finishes under coach O should in no way be interconnected.

If it is interconnected then I hope he drops a couple of games to ensure that this idiot AD doesn't get in his own way. Who hires a coach based on a two month sample size?

We still have 6 games to play. We will know by November 6th if he is going to be a serious candidate or not. Let the season play out.

Interesting letter.

quote:

Ed Orgeron’s LSU head coaching debut

Ed has made it a point to say that Alleva has never referred to him as "interim". I'm pretty sure Alleva

quote:

Coach O and his staff

not "The staff", but "his staff"

quote:

Coach O – our very own “Bayou Bengal”

Feels like he's putting the contingency plan in front of fans just in case.

I think i've asked you this same question before. But please name me a top 10-15 HC in the country that is not widely considered an exceptional X's and O's guy?

The era of the CEO type coach (Paterno, Bowden, Miles, Mack Brown) is gone.

Having a HC that operates one side of the ball makes it much easier to hire assistants. One elite coordinator is much easier to find than 2....wouldnt you agree?

ETA - i'll give you dabo in advance. Thats all i can think of.

I honestly don't care about how many others have done it but I'll play along.

Jim Harbaugh
Gary Patterson (was a DC for only 3 years before HC)
David Shaw (Was a OC for only 3 years before HC)
Mark Dantonio (Was a DC for only 2 years before HC)
Brian Kelly (Was a DC for only 2 years before HC)

You need 2 great coordinators. Do you think Saban hired Pruitt for the hell of it?
