Looks like it could be according to the LA Times. Opens up the door for LSU to look at Dave Aranda.

We aren't getting someone we want. If these last couple of years has taught me anything, it's that. No one wants to come here with no type of job security.

Arlanda is a west coast guy who was rumored to be interested in heading home to Cali to coach at USCw

He was rumored to be considering the USC DC job..
If they get Pendergrast he may consider a raise at LSU and more exposure.
He's only making around 500k I believe I heard? (I know I say "only" but in comparison to other top DC) He could get paid!

Aranda is not what LSU needs. Aranda will want smaller & quicker up front. LSU desperately needs more size & strength on the front seven.

Regardless of the scheme, everyone wants quicker guys, nobody wants smaller guys. He just may prefer speed over size. At LSU he can get the talent that have both size and speed.

Aranda was given Wisconsin athletes/recruiting and did the most with it. I'm sure he'd rather have 4* and 5* DL's and LB's that are both fast AND big, but he doesn't get that luxury.
And put out the #1 scoring defense in the country.

Holy shite, thats impressive. We need him. Not to mention that if you take him away from Wisconsin, you essentially guarantee you will start 1-0 next year in what would otherwise be a tough non-conference "road" game... He will make our offense suffer next year if we don't hire him.

exactly. also, for some info, this is their depth chart on Rivals - LINK. somewhat outdated, but it gives you an idea of what kinda players he has. including a 6'2" 332 true freshman NT. and one OLB who goes 6'4" 246. the other LBs are a pretty good size and all bigger than LSU's except Beckwith. so not sure he wants to be that small.
LINK - this article gives some outlook on their possible 2016 depth chart, and also some insight as to what guys did this year/ how the depth chart shifted (cuz I know someone was gonna go "OMG 270 lb NT" from the first link.)

Money doesn't rule everyone. He could be comfortable with 800K.

I can understand someone having issues with what we were offering last year, but Miles has at least two years of job security now. The right contract and salary can bring in the right guy. Alleva isn't going to limit what we can offer this time around, because HIS job is the one in immediate danger right now. Johnny Jones is going down in flames. He needs a win, and his only immediate opportunity is Miles succeeding next season. A big time DC makes that possible.
