Marcus Freeman would excel at LSU with our talent every year. Hope we hire him.

Whats the DC situation at Ohio State? Would we have a realistic shot at keeping Freeman for 3+ years or will he be at OSU soon?

3-3-3-2. That 4th level is a bitch to pass on. No amount of QB arm strength can get it over the top of that coverage.

His handprints are all over tbe concy defense.
Freeman is a lb guru himself
Lsu will be lucky to get him.
I just hope they have a backup because i think it will be a hard pull with ed o's seat getting warm

Both Freeman and Mason run a 2 gap offense which is what Aranda used. Aranda used a slot corner. Freeman will too if he comes to the SEC unless he has an exceptional safety who can cover a really good WR. The SEC teams have more good receivers than Cincinnati’s opponents. It is a much faster leGue than the one Cincinnati plays in.

3-3-3?
Something is missing here.
That’s just how good he is. He only needs 9 men to stop the offense’s 11.

So a 3-3-5 Big / Big Nickel

Honey Badger would have absolutely shredded in a 3-3-3/4-2-5

I think you obviously hire the best guy available and let him install whatever defense he wants. But I’d be surprised if O is already giving up on the 4-3. It did what he wanted with TFLs, getting sacks and pressures on the QB, which lead to more interceptions and forced fumbles.
The problem, obviously, was we had terrible secondary play that Pelini either couldn’t figure out how to correct or couldn’t communicate with the players to teach them what to do. And it seemed like he didn’t install a Plan B during the weak and was incapable making in-game adjustments when Plan A inevitably went wrong.
I also think that Orgeron genuinely loves recruiting—especially on the DLine—and felt that Aranda’s 3-4 made it much more difficult for him to lands the studs there. The top ranked guys all had sacks and TFLs in high school and would rather a scheme that allows them to keep making those plays instead of tying up blocks just so the LBs can come clean up and get all the glory. I just can’t see O abandoning the 4-3 and the advantages it gives him.
Again, the most important thing to me is hiring the best coach, period, no matter what they run, and the more I see about Freeman, the more I like him—he’s by far my favorite of all the guys mentioned. But do we have the personnel to run a 3-4 in ‘21? I know not all 3-man fronts are the same, but I am not sure of the nuances. Does Freeman’ scheme reflect Aranda’s? Saban’s? Does it require a prototypical nose? Can Webb and Ojulari play standing up at OLB? Will Roy, Guillory, and Smith feel more comfortable in a 4-3 and bounce? Will we be able to talk Gaye into staying?

Uhhhh, no shite. Guy set a new standard of low at one of the worst p5 programs around. Thats hard to do.
He better f'ing jump if he's offered a top tier DC job

My main issue with Glenn’s story is the Freeman comment about being Coach O’s top pick. There’s no attribution to a source. Maybe thats an oversight but Mason is quoted about his part in the search.

That's called "Stack" (3-3 Stack or 3-3-5 Stack) not 3-3-3.

We don't need Mason!!

So I guess you’re on board with the fact that we actually fired our defensive coordinator now rather than telling people they were wrong for saying it was going to happen?
