Even better for Sage Ryan and Derrick Davis Jr :)

He’s at the top of the wish list but are they talking to him?

It is but DCs have been calling the very recent mutation of it the 3-3-3 just to distinguish it from the 3-3-5 of old. It’s not something I’m making up man.
It is a very adaptable scheme though so they all run a bunch of different looks and variations depending on matchup
For the record their are mutiple variations of the 4-2-5. I am very familiar with the so called McNeely version that McNeely ran through out the 90s up to like 2010.
It's what a lot of teams have went to against the spread. It's 4 doing, 2 traditional linebackers playing in the middle, 2 safeties with one on each end of the line almost like an outside linebacker, 2 corners and 1 safety over the top.
3-3-3 is just another version of that with one of the safeties roaming. Some are also going with 3/4 dline, up to 4 safeties, 1 or 2 linebackers and 2 CBs.
Essentially pulling a line back or a dlineman and replacing with a hybrid.
Thing is, all of these DCs are having to run some form of this to stand a chance of containing these spread teams.

Neilsen or Freeman would be excellent choices. Might need to wait longer for Neilson because of Saints.

From the article it looks like if it isn’t Freeman, it’ll definitely be Mason—he’s ready to go if asked. Hoping we get Freeman, but of all the other names mentioned in the article (Steele, Muschamp, Mason), I prefer Mason.

Embody just said he doesn't expect it to be Freeman after a phone call he had....expects a cincy raise. I would assume head coach in waiting type thing.

Idk much about Cincinnati's AD buget, but they already pay Fickell over 3 million a year. OC and DC were making around 600k. Not sure if they'll pony up 1.7 million more for a DC (Pelini made 2.3). Now, HCIW is a nice title that they could make money work for. I guess we will see.

You make it seem like Ryan Clark is the only former player that has publicly vouched for a coach to be hired. It's happened in basketball with Johnny Jones and in football many times. Also Ramond is a good friend of Clark's so of course he will vouch for his friend. Crazy how you think one person has that much pull of a program that you think he would intentionally sabotage a locker room against a coach.

Then you must not be keeping up with what he's said. He is definitely trying to play the spoiler.

I’d be so down with extra safeties. 3-3-3 would be a hit here.

I just want 11 guys, hauling arse to the ball, and making good tackles....that's the defense I want.

I seriously doubt they throw that kind of money out to a young up and comer right now. A couple of top level seasons and he would get it.

Let's see how he defends against a depleted Georgia Team, I wanna watch his defense and see how it looks, perfect timing!!!
How is UGA depleted offensively?
QB
Daniels 5 star #16 overall recruit
RB
White 5 star #9 overall recruit
Cook 4 star #41 overall recruit
Milton 4 star #54 overall recruit
WR
Pickens 5 star #24 overall recruit
Burton 4 star #82 overall recruit
Jackson 4 star #130 overall recruit
TE
Washington 5 star #23 overall recruit
Add in their OL, and they are on par with Ohio St with talent. If Freeman can slow them down with Daniels at the helm (who has been elite over the last 3 games), then I would 110% support him as DC.

Freeman makes sense, he coaches linebackers, bo Davis line, and Raymond dbs.

There is no doubt we need a new variation in our safety play. worst I have witnessed in 55+ years of LSU football.

3-3-3? Something is missing here.
His scheme is just that good; only needs nine players.
Safety play was abhorrent this season, for whatever reasons. So many big plays surrendered, time after time. Next year, the defensive line should be solid - that was true even without the number one ranked, five-star recruit - and the cornerbacks potentially fantastic. Safety and linebacker are the question marks. Teach those two positions to know their jobs, react quickly, and play fundamental football: now you’re competing for a championship again.

This happens maybe once every 25 times someone claims it’s going to happen.

At Vandy, Mason did. But he couldn't stop SEC offenses.
Nobody including SEC defenses could stop SEC offenses.
