“But I really think there’s going to be a bidding war for James Franklin, or it’s going to set up that way between USC and LSU,” Dodd said. “According to sources, he’s interested in USC. He likes that job. He thinks it would be good. I don’t know what his feeling is about LSU, but LSU is a better job. You’re going to compete for national championships every year. It might be easier at USC. All you have to beat is Oregon and maybe somebody else to win that league. That’s a career-changing job if you got to LSU.

Interesting take on LSU versus USC no matter what you think of Franklin...

I doubt we get in a bidding war for Franklin. We have options.

I'm not sure about Franklin, but the comments regarding LSU are pretty powerful. That's why Saban came here two decades ago...

Seems like Franklin has always been the option for USC. Not every coach is ready for the SEC. LSU is the better job but USC is the easier job. At least easier to have a path to win your conference and try to get into the playoffs. If USC wants FRanklin, then he will be the next coach at USC.

If he goes to USC he's one of the top 2 coaches in the conference. If he goes to LSU he may be the 5th best in his division.

This will be the biggest hire in LSU history. Woody has to get it right with the new SEC coming.

Spot on BL. I imagine he would thrive at USC and have them competing in no time.

Hell, I’d rather have Kiffin than Franklin.

The Franklin hate on here is absolutely absurd

same here. I can't really put my finger on it why.

I think, maybe, what I'm trying to finger is that I just don't see him as a guy who can quite get over the hump. Not saying that is necessarily true, especially at LSU, but that is that subconscious perception I have. Perpetually on the verge of winning those big ones.

I'd rather have a pleasant surprise than always expecting that one let down that ruins a season.

Thinking back that was our perception of Dabo for the longest- always dropping the ball on that one game per year that he shouldn't have. Until he did win it and no one thinks that way anymore.

The Illinois game didn't help any. 9 OT's and 18 points

Revisionist history. He beat teams named Elon, Presbyterian, Austin Peay, UAB, and very weak SEC teams. The records of the teams in the SEC that he did beat were:

2013 19-30
2012 15-39
2011 5-17

Total W/L record vs SEC teams Franklin beat = 39-86.

Not exactly a glowing resume.

If Woody gets in a bidding war for Franklin and gives him 10+ million a year for many years, we are truly toast.

While I’m not as high on Franklin as you are, I can always appreciate “nitwit” being thrown around.

No reason to break the bank for Franklin. He’d be using LSU as leverage for more cash from usc anyway. No coincidence he is with sexton now.
