Revisionist history. He beat teams named Elon, Presbyterian, Austin Peay, UAB, and very weak SEC teams. The records of the teams in the SEC that he did beat were:

2013 19-30
2012 15-39
2011 5-17

Total W/L record vs SEC teams Franklin beat = 39-86.

Not exactly a glowing resume.

I don't want Franklin either, but compare him to his predecessors and successors at Vanderbilt. He had them recruiting in the top 25 and top 20 in defense (Elko was great, but still his hire).

He was pretty much historically good at Vanderbilt.

It’s VANDY you nitwit

OK, you nitwit, Franklin is .615 in the B1G.

That's translates to 6-3 in conference each year. Still, not a glowing resume. In fact, he might not get to 6-3 this year. He is currently 2-2, with tOSU and undefeated Michigan and Michigan State on deck.

LSU is hiring to win championships, not the next Dan Mullen or Gus Malzhan.

This explains why he hired sexton.

The comparison to USC is right on.

People get all intimidated when they think about USC but it’s a lesser program. It’s got the glitz of loss Angeles but they aren’t die hard football people.

If Franklin wants that job then that’s where he belongs. When he wants to come coach in big leagues, he can come see us.

You’re assuming Penn State is as good a job as LSU is, which it isn’t.

He’d be a game or two better here every year than he is there.

Not at all. I used to like him when he was at vandy but either he's changed, or my perception of him has changed. Now I just see him as a smug prick

I did. That's why I posted the abysmal records of the teams he beat, coached by Chizik, Muschamp, Nutt, Joker Phillips, Dooley, Butch Jones, etc. He lucked into an historic 2-year run against poor SEC coaches.

If he were at Vandy today, hes not beating anybody in the west. And not getting 4-5 wins over Smart, Mullen, Beamer, Huepel, Stoops, and Drinkowitz. He just lost to Bielema, for Pete's sake.

Like I said, Mullen or Malzhan.

Hard pass.

Me neither, Captain.

Good news for us is, from what I’ve heard, it sounds like USC has a better shot at James Franklin than we do.

The rumblings and smoke around that situation is that they’re have been some on-again-off-again communications between those two camps for last couple years. If I were a betting man, i’d place a large sum on Franklin NOT ending up as the HC of LSU

I don't see LSU getting into a bidding war. If that is who Woody wants he will throw a top notch offer at him. IF he balks or tries playing LSU against USC, I think Woody walks. Not because he is but hurt like Alevea got with Herman but I just don't think he has the time or willingness to play them games. I don't think USC will pay what LSU will anyway.

If Franklin changed agents to Sexton, Dodd is either reading tea leaves based on Franklin's agent change or he is hearing this name at both schools pretty strongly.

I suspect both have an interest and Franklin is moving to Sexton as his agent to maximize his returns. If USC sees the SEC Agent Sexton representing Franklin, they may come a little harder at Franklin.

I think the LSU job is bigger than Franklin personally. Not in on thinking he is a top tier coach. He does love attention and a mic in his face though.

So if the next coach was

8-5
8-5
12-2
13-1
10-3
13-1
6-1 through first 7 games of his 7th season

You wouldn’t be happy with that?
