Auburn announced Monday that it hired former Liberty coach Hugh Freeze to be the team’s new coach, and with the move came questions about what would happen to fan favorite interim coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams.

Williams put fans at east Tuesday and shared that he isn’t going anywhere and will be a part of Freeze’s staff.

“Coach Freeze asked me to stay on and join his staff as associate head coach,” Williams wrote in a statement. “I accepted the position and am excited about working with him and learning from him. I ask that the Auburn family join me in supporting coach Freeze and getting Auburn football back on the winning track!”

Cadillac clearly loves auburn and will do whatever it takes for the programs success so keeping him on is a good move. Chances he Orgeron’s some kind of a coup at the first sign of trouble are pretty low. Then again it’s auburn so who knows.

Freeze would’ve been an idiot to let me walk, and I’m confident Auburn didn’t give him a choice.

Caddy is Auburn royalty and I've heard Auburn folks say he was one of the only coaches on Harsin's staff that took recruiting seriously.

With the love for Auburn from Alum coaches and Freeze with Yellow wood money. Recipe for "Do Whatever it Takes to Win" perfect group and proven track records to ATM at Auburn. Only good thing is Auburn doesn't have ATM pockets. But they do have the same mentality.

Speaking of Orgeron. I wonder is Hugh would consider trying to get him on Auburn's staff given that it was O who gave Freeze his start in college football? Or is Freeze smart enough to know he doesn't need that buffoon on staff given that outside of one magical season Freeze has been much more successful as a HC that O

I feel like sometimes it is really hard on guys who feel like they did a good job as interim to set aside their pride and take this kind of position, but IMO this is a great opportunity for him. He is essentially learning from a guy that has proven to be great, while being in a position of responsibility that will get him a decent head coaching job in the next 2-4 years bare minimum.

I'm impressed with the way Caddy carries himself and his seeming maturity. The guy openly said he didn't want the head coach job and he wasn't ready for such a job. While at the same team the guy totally revitalized the team and fans.

How many coaches ever served seamlessly on three different staffs? Probably happened before but can't think of anybody

Joe Whitt Sr was auburns linebackers coach for like 20 years… but it’s even more rare now

I heard, as is tradition, he'll only be on staff for like 3 or 4 games a year, then Ronnie Brown will replace him for the rest of the season.

he was really good coach.

I always thought he did a great job with Karlos Dansby.

Dansby was recruited as a safety if I remember correctly.

That's not really what he said. When he got the interim job he was saying he knew the deal and that he was glad the PTB trusted him enough to be the guy to see Auburn through the end of the season. Then he got a couple wins u der his belt and his mentality changed. He got an official interview and even said he was disappointed that he didn't get the job after Freeze was hired, but that he would take this opportunity to learn and grow and do what's best for Auburn.

I honestly think he means it too. I just hope some smaller schools doesn't wave 3 or 4 million dollars a year in his face to be their head man soon. Then again, if they do, that means Auburn has things turned around. But I think it's best for Auburn and Carnell that he is at Auburn. It's clear he loves the place. And it's clear every Auburn person loves him.
