LSU needs a head coach that can lock down and own one side of the ball. Im tired of this CEO shite, they can't fix problems when they arise.

This is a simpleton mindset that has been wrong a countless amount of times. You want a second coordinator and to just let the admin run the program? Great idea.

Why EPA/play? How about we take the subjectivity out of it and look at yards/play or points/play?

8th in yards/play.
12th in points/play.

Or what about redzone defense?

22nd in redzone defense.

I like Kelvin Sheppard and I hope he's very successful, but let's not pretend like he's the best DC in the NFL right now.

while no HC is not a deal breaker, the guy hasn't coached in college other than 1 year at LSU as director of player Development. In a crappy 2020 year. He has had 1 year as DC and the DC before him has now gone on to be bad in his first year at the Jets.

It is very risky. Could he be great, certainly, are we willing to take that risk?

But he had learned under the GOAT for years and was a known great recruiter. Big difference between that and a first year NFL DC.

So youre saying Saban for 3 years with Sheppard in waiting. Get Honey Badger in the building somehow too.

He's coached for 4 years, and hasn't even finished half a season as a defensive coordinator. I love Sheppard and think he's going to be a great coach, but coaching in the NFL is dramatically different than college. It's also a major jump to head coach no matter the level, but even a bigger one from NFL coordinator to college coach.

That route has almost never worked right off the bat unless the coach went somewhere smaller like Saban going to Kent. St.

He would not be a good hire for LSU right now, and again, that doesn't mean he won't be a great coach, but this is where Fehoko's nepotism for a former player is blinding him.

Not for HC. You just can't do that.

Well, I never said that. I said he has one of the best defenses in the NFL right now. Personnel matters too.

EPA measures efficiency and is more accurate because it accounts for the game situation. It's not subjective; it's statistics.

Traditional stats like you are referencing are a terrible indicator of success. Time to move into 2025, my man.

And I'd be pissed if LSU hired him as a HC. You can't take a chance on somebody that isn't proven at the college level at this point. LSU can't afford to miss on this next hire and have to pay another buyout of millions of dollars.

Yea you maybe call him. NFL and college are two different animals. Just because he is a great NFL DC doesn't automatically mean he would be successful in college. No experience in recruiting, developing, or calling plays at the college level. Which is vastly different from the NFL.

so you mean like a sure thing right...so like a brian kelly? someone that has won at the highest level for years....right?

for sure dont look a coordinator like Oregon did with Dan lanning or Ohio State did with Ryan Day or Vandy with Clark Lea or UGA with Kirby Smart and for sure dont go take a lower level coach like Ole Miss did with Kiffin or Indiana did.....it must be someone that has won at the highest level for a long time.....because those always work out...BK and Jimbo prove that.

By all means let's find another "proven" head coach like Kelly and pay him 100 million for 10 years. Cause that worked out so well for LSU...

im not 100% either way but explain....

please dont say experience unless you want to say no experience in CFB because most of the coaches in the playoffs had little to no HC experience before they got current job.

I would personally rather a college coordinator if we went the no HC experience route but i also dont think it would be disastrous either.

You don’t think there is a difference between someone that is a career coach vs a guy who has been a coach for 4years?

Experience
Defensive Coach
Has never made a hire
Has never recruited
Has never navigated NIL
