This means jack shite. See Kirby Smart. See Dan Lanning.

The more concerning thing is no COLLEGE coaching experience. Would need a very experienced staff to help support him. It would be a dice roll but it would have a chance to be an absolute home run.

He's a great candidate to consider for the future, but he's got to build his resume. LSU simply cannot get this hire wrong. There's too much on the line.

I'm ok with a guy who has never been a HC. Kelvin has never really been a DC. It's his first year and the system was in place. He has also never coached at any level in college and his next recruiting visit will be his first since he was on the other side of the table.

Neither did Kirby Smart at Georgia have any.

Yeah, but Kirby ran Sabans defense for how long--like 8 years? And he had been coaching for a decade before he became DC.

they coached college football for years and had successful coordinator experience for years. Kelvin has been a Coordinator for 7 games in the NFL. Just feels incredibly risky

Can't hire someone without experience as a HC. Especially in this landscape.

Rather hire one of those very experienced members of that staff. In your scenario, what is Sheppard bringing to the table other than being a former LSU player?

Sure we can, but it would need to be an OC or DC from a very successful college program.

I agree. Breiden obv has more recency bias because Sheppard was working behind the scenes for the two years he was at LSU. It’s a very risky hire because he’d be dependent on a lot of coaches he had no personal ties to or holdovers fans would question.

Michael Jordan is not a coach.

Actual dream scenario.
Saban agrees to a 2/3 year transitional period. Shep comes as DC and HCIW, learns the ends and outs of college coaching.
Good lawd we might wreck shite for 2 decades

Kelvin Sheppard is going to be an NFL head coach in a few years. I really think we'll be saying what could have been if we pass this up. Watch the coach and listen to his interviews.

You have to, at the VERY LEAST, interview him for this job.

Kelvin is doing great in the NFL, and he's going to be on the short list of literally EVERY NFL head coaching gig for the next 10 years (especially with the Rooney Rule). If he's successful here, it will most likely be a short stint in BR

he’s young. If he does well kelvin will have an opportunity in the future to come back to lsu if he wants it. Doesn’t feel like the right move at this time

This is risky for sure. He is an awesome dc but to be put in the position where the HC is running so much, idk.

The last time we listened to a former LSU player , we got Matt House.

Nah he'd make more money here. The question is IF he would want to coach college or not. Fehoko seems to think so.

So now we are scared to hire a coach because he may be successful?

My god, dude. Listen to what you are saying.

If Blake Baker leaves you give him a call maybe for DC. I like Shepard but you don't take somebody with no head coaching experience, and no SEC coaching experience at all and bring them to LSU. The risk of it is way to great.
