Would you disagree it would take that for SC to make a run at UGA and FL?

$4.5 for a head coach would be a Top 25 salary in the country. You don't pay that to a head coach with 3 years of head coaching experience in the Sun Belt. Drinkwitz makes $3.0 coming from the Sun Belt to Mizzu. Kiffen makes $3.9 with lots more head coaching experience.

He wanted $4.5 per year and $5M for assistant salary pool.

SC after Napier said that

Right. That’s probably why they went the Beamer route

I don't disagree with that, and while I honestly have no real idea, I'd bet Napier might have conceded some on his salary as long as he was guaranteed the requested money pool for assistants.

I believe that's been one of the major differences with his tenure vs. Hud's. Both their salaries are pretty much equal, but Napier requested a good upgrade in available monies for staff and received it. That allows to have more qualified support around him, and in order to compete in the SEC, I'd imagine having a high dollar amount for assistants is a must.

Considering what is going on at LSU, Napier’s statement may change from “moving forward at Louisiana” to “moving East in Louisiana”.

Guessing your comment is limited to football (probably men’s basketball too). Y’all plucked our softball coach back in 2000, and she won y’all a World Series (I think). I don’t blame her for taking the job. She deserved it.

She did elevate the program but no WS Championships (Womens) ever at LSU.

Well at $2.7 per year for 5 years for Shane Beamer it’s pretty clear why Napier said no. He wanted $4.5 per year and $5M for assistant salary pool. Plus other commitments for the program. If South Carolina wants to compete with Clemson, UNC and UGA in that region they have to make a firm commitment to do so.

South Carolina can't afford to do that. Broke because of huge buyout to Will Muschamp.

Missouri is paying Drinkwitz 4M a year. Most of the fans here said it was way too much. I guess Arkansas had a chance but were too cheap and had to pay all the buyouts and couldn't afford another bust at HC.

You are wrong about Drinkwitz! He is earning 4M at Missouri!
Missouri,
Coach: Eliah Drinkwitz

2020 salary: $4 million

Year at school, record: First

Coaching resume: In his FBS head coaching debut, Drinkwitz led Appalachian State to a Sun Belt conference-record 12 wins with a conference-record 11-1 regular-season mark. The Mountaineers were the first Sun Belt team to earn a top-20 ranking in the AP poll, finishing 19th, and had wins over two Power Five teams.
