If you’re a Titans fan you probably appreciate that he completely ran the Texans into the ground. That’s about the best I can come up with.

Bill O’Brien Positive attribute thread

More NFL success than some other college coaches like Saban, Spurrier, & Chip Kelly.

Won his division in the NFL four times.

Had a winning record at Penn State despite the sanctions.

He was able to do a decent job recruiting to Penn state despite the postseason ban and reduced scholarships.

Coached under Belicheck & Saban.

Just to be clear, I am not advocating for BOB. However, he isn't as bad as this board sees him. I don't want him, b/c there are better names on the board. But like many of those names, he's a better coach than the last two bozos we had... although that doesn't say much.

I’m positive he turned a promising NFL franchise loaded with talent into a dumpster fire.

****I WILL frickIGN MELT IF WE HIRE Bill O'BRIEN*****

But I wrote this in another thread a while back....

quote:

Took over Penn state that was decimated and went 15-9, (10-6 in conf) in 2 seasons at Penn state.

Took over the Texans and went

9-7
9-7
9-7
4-12
11-5
10-6
0-4

52-48

I understand he wasn't a good gm, but much of that was because of things out if his control but in the end who gives a shite if he was a good gm or not?

Was a dang good nfl coach, better than Saban, on par with carrols first round before he became gm and ruined everything.

Did wonders with hackenburg at psu and was National coach of the year after his first season with PSU. They had been decimated with sanctions after the Sandusky thing.

Won 4 division titles in his 1st 6 years in the nfl, finished 2nd one other time.

Only really got one full recruiting cycle under him at psu and was only allowed to take 15 ayers. Was able to get 1 five star, 3 four stars and the rest 3 stats to finish 4th int he conference. Recruiting would be his one unknown.

with all that being said, I do not think in todays game he has the personality to deal with or recruit CFB age kids. He just doesnt. His dickhead approach will not work, period.

Add on the fact that only 6 coaches in the NFL at that time made the playoffs 4 out of 6 years. Some great coaches like John Harbaugh did not. BTW, The Texans were 2-14 the year before O’Brien got there. Also, Tom Brady had his first 5,00 yard season playing for O’Brien as the OC. The year in the Alabama machine is gravy.

Of all the coaches still being mentioned, only Lincoln Riley has a better resume. It will be interesting to see who gets the job.

Biggest positive is that there is a family connection from his time at Brown so maybe I can snag some free stuff.
