No way. Just looking at resumes, Bret Bielema wins by a mile.

I won't be surprised if he does well in the SEC.

Bielema is a better hire in my opinion.

He better pull a staff from the south because recruiting is key no matter how "good" a coach you are.

Gus can recruit in the south. That's more upside and I think Arkansas plays best when they are spreading it out and playing up tempo. I know Bielma is a good coach it's style and recruiting that are going to be the problem IMO.

I think both are decent (not great) hires.

Bielema has had good success. But his old conference wasn't nearly as cut-throat. I'm not sure he understands what he is in for. He is going to have trouble recruiting.

Gus has been a huge success everywhere he has been. All of his offenses have been fantastic, and he did a solid job with Arkie State this year. He has SEC experience at two schools. Lots of Auburn fans seem unhappy with the hire, but I think it will be okay. There were some better choices out there, but also some much worse choices.

Both are solid but I have to go with Arky and Bielema.

Agreed...Bielema is a JERK!

What does being a jerk have to do with how good of a coach a person is?

But you don't think Gus is a jerk? LOL

First of all, only a complete idiot would think Gus was not involved in the whole Cam Newton thing up to his eyeballs.

Second of all he was involved in a similar situation with an outfit that was giving improper benefits to high schools kids who magically all ended up at Auburn when Gus was there.

Third of all, and worst of all, when Gus was at Arkansas he advised Mitch Mustain to stick it out at Arkansas after a tumultous freshman season THEN bolted to Tulsa without even telling anyone, including this kid. By the way this kid was Mitch Mustain who at the time Gus claimed was like his own kid and was in fact dating his daughter.

That's not even mentioning the amount of backstabbing Gus allowed to go on trying to oust Houston Nutt in favor of him when here.

Gus is a jerk.

But it doesn't factor into how good of a coach he is.

They both suck dick. WIN for all teams in the SEC-W not named Arky and Auburn.

But Gus > Fatty.

Does anyone really think Bielma can hack it recruiting in the SEC? I give him less than 2 years.

I love these hires.

Bielema has the better resume, but I am really interested to see what takes place with Malzahn in charge. It wasn't long ago many AU fans were asking for Malzahn to take over for Chizik. I feel he will do pretty good myself. Let's see.

I'd say Bielema is a more proven commodity, but Malzahn has potential for more upside.

Bielema had success during down periods in the Big10 (tOSU and UM were both meh) and was a dick about withholding film this year. He isn't a bad hire, but not a grand slam at all.

Malzahn has upside, but will have to rely on good coordinators to be competitive.

This looks familiar. It's was the same situation when LSU hired Saban. Obviously, Saban found a winning formula; we'll see what happens with Bielema.

Bielema.

Auburn needed a culture change, so they hired someone on the staff 12 months ago. It makes sense if you think about it.

I actually think Gus is a decent hire. He's an offensive wizard and he's had success wherever he's been. He's one of those "win the hire, not the press conference" kind of guys. Not exciting, but a good football coach.

Bielesma? I don't it. Arkansas needs an ace recruiter more than anything tat that job, and they hire a guy who has a poor track record recruiting. Maybe it will work. But he doesn't scare me.

he has to recruit an area where he has zero connections, that doesn't help

2011 pre Malzahn Arkansas State 2th in total offense with 445 yards per game
2012 Arkansas State 17th in total offense and 481 yards per game

2009 Auburn with Malzahn 16th in total offense and 431 yards per game

2006 Tulsa pre Malzahn 24th in total offense with 388 yards per game
2007 Tulsa with Malzahn NUMBER 1 in total offense with 543 yards per game

2005 Arkansas pre Malzahn 66th in total offense with 360 yards per game

saban has always been the most relentless recruiter in CFB which is why he's the best at it. Bielema hasn't ever shown anything close to that

Both are fine hires IMO. Gus has a young QB with talent he can develop and build an offense around him. Auburn won't lack offensive firepower with Gus as head coach.. period.

We'll find out alot about both hires when we see who they hire as their assistants. I wonder if Auburn will go to the 3-4 defense, it's tough to run against.
