Ross Dellenger @RossDellenger Mississippi State is finalizing a deal to hire App State OC Kevin Barbay as its next offensive coordinator, sources tell @SINow . Barbay, a Jim McElwain disciple, has captained offenses the last two years at App and Central Michigan that have ranked in the top 32 in the nation. 9:25 AM · Jan 12, 2023 · 124.1K Views

Have fun with him! Offensive creativity went out the door after the first 2 games. Get ready for a shite ton of inside zone

I’m convinced our offensive philosophy is going to be “just don’t screw it up”. liked the Arnett hire under the circumstances and really like what he’s doing with the staff defensively but scratching my head on the offense so far.

He maintained a pretty good offense throughout the year. App State was second in ppg in conference with 31.3 ppg. It was your defense that was garbage. That being said, not a splash hire, but we'll see.

Wonder what Rogers thinks about this. He doesn’t really fit that system

Not because the QB runs a lot in this system (they don't), but because it requires a QB that can throw a bomb on play action. That's the reason Rogers doesn't fit. This is just what I've been reading. Rogers doesn't have much of an arm.

I thought I remembered their QB running a lot of run options and stuff like that. Shows how much I know

A mobile QB would be nice, but I don't think necessary. Definitely have to run out and get a couple of TE's though.

If they're fast enough, this OC will do designed runs, but it's not essential for success like Arkansas' offense. I've been watching clips of Central Michigan in '21 and App State in '22 and none of those QBs were very fast. But I get it, Rogers is another level of slow and that will always be a hindrance no matter what the system.

I feel like we are looking long term past Rogers. Parsons fits the system

I could see letting Rogers start and using Parsons in certain formations to get him experience for 2024

Unless Parson proves to be better and can beat out Rogers. I like Will but I think he has reached his ceiling. From what I’ve heard Parson has Dak potential

As fans we are looking to only next year becagse we return a lot. But Arnett has to make hires to fit his long term vision, not just one for Leachs system for next year. After next season we start over regardless, so hopefully our OC can do well enough to win 8 or so games next year while preparing for the future.

MSU doesn’t have an air raid identity without Leach. That was never our style and it only worked due to Leachs popularity. Hire an Air Raid OC, recruits won’t be attracted to it like they would with Leach.

I think changing back to our old identity like we used under Mullen long term will be better. A more spread style offense and strong defense.
