Beginning to think it may be Bob Stoops or Chris Petersen

Chicken, if this is still off limits - my apologies. Feel free to delete.

I think we can all agree Hanagriff is more reputable than the other radio guys and probably knows more.

He said today on his podcast that he has heard from several people that LSU is not interested in paying another coach's buyout. I think Jimbo technically doesn't have a buyout, but I don't think it will be him. Not saying they WON'T pay a buyout if necessary, but they'd prefer not to.

Hanagriff mentioned Petersen or Stoops - both are out of coaching and would have no buyout obviously. I think both are also Jimmy Sexton clients. Both of those would be Woodward-esque hires for sure.

I would prefer we go a different direction, but out of those 2 give me Petersen all day

Stoops time has passed, this isn’t 1999. W was President the last time Bob Stoops won a big game

Mark Stoops is a much better candidate than Bob Stoops in 2021

I find it very interesting that when the USC job opened up, Petersen said he had no interest in returning to coaching, but when the LSU job was clearly going to open up, he began telling people behind the scenes he'd come back for the "right" job.

He's my #2 choice of anyone out there not named Saban.

I wouldn't count him out, especially with his past ties to Woodward.

ETA: No inside knowledge.

I'm pretty sure most of the good coaches (with good agents) have one-sided buyouts... meaning they can leave for free but get paid to be fired.

I think Kiffin has a very low buyout. Somewhere in the 3-5 mil range.

Chris Peterson would be an incredible hire. The antithesis of what we've been dealing with since Saban left.

Didn't Petersen's name come up last go-round?

I also think he's a pretty staunch atheist, which could provide quite the butting of heads down here (maybe not)

And it could be announced soon, Very soon. With a smooth transition into recruiting to start immediately.

Damn I didn't even think about that. You're exactly right - wouldn't have to wait until the guy's season was over. I would be all aboard on Petersen.

Tell me you don't know who Petersen is without telling me you don't know who Petersen is.

Where was this reported? I've never heard anything other than he's done, and he's happy doing TV.

Stoops has also been pretty adamant about not coming back. That's why he took the XFL job; to scratch the coaching itch without the pressure.

ETA: Not saying I wouldn't want either. I just assumed they'd be pipe dreams.

Two separate articles from two separate writers on 24/7 state this.

From Sonny: "Petersen has recently commented on a desire to possibly get back into coaching for the right opportunity ... "

From Chris Hummer: "But he's indicated he'd be open to it recently for the right opportunity. The opportunities don't get much better than LSU."

Hearing from a friend that the coach is already in place. Supposedly the word is "show stopper" Dabo, Jimbo. Or Stoops IMO. Announcement soon

Petersen seems like a logical/perfect fit for USC

I'll humor you...has there ever been a mid-season announcement of a P5 school hiring another P5 school's coach?

There’s no way Dabo or Jimbo would be announced soon.

And Bob Stoops just seems like an incredibly dumb hire

If your friend is correct, it’s gotta be Petersen

I could see that happening but it would have to be someone who isn't currently coaching. And Dabo's buyout is like 45 million dollars
