Find a published story from a month ago or longer stating CNS was due to get a big raise at season's end

What generated the interest in a new contract was Ark signing their coach to a contract just below Saban. It started the ball rolling then Sumlin's contract put more pressure on it. Texas was used to make look more necessary to the public.

March of 2012.
He has won an SEC championship, BCS national championship, playing for another BCS bowl game and won over twenty games losing only two since his last extension.
That gets you a raise anywhere you are coaching. Let's be real.

Texas flirting with Nick didn't have anything to do with this
Some group trying to force Mack out and Nick Saban negotiating a new deal.
These were parallel events running separately. Texass brass were never dealing with Saban. Never. Saban's agent did a great job of dealing with tons on misinformation and assumptions. Saban's agent and Bama concern for losing Nick got him his money. There was no offer from Texass.

Talks didn't begin until just before the Iron Bowl. So you won't find those published reports. A coach who is 79-14 (soon to be 80-14 *crosses fingers*) over seven seasons deserves a raise.

Don't worry. The whole board is making that mistake.
The contract is more than fair for what he's accomplished since his last raise.

I think the raise has more to do with the next job openings everyone will try to shoehorn Saban into.

That would have been the group wanting Mack out. All they needed was for Saban or his agent to give some positive indication that he was interested.
Had Saban done that, then there would have been tremendous pressure on the Mack supporters to get him out of there either by forced resignation or firing.
Saban never gave any positive signals and those guys strategy left them high and dry. Their plan fell completely apart. Some high powered boosters may have called Saban or his agent but it wasn't done on behalf of the University. They went rogue and lost.
You say you believe Texas gave him some numbers... I think you need to consider it was some boosters not authorized by anyone. IF that is the case... Was it really Texas? I say absolutely not.

Sounds so convincing
And you sound so mad.
Newsflash for you: Mack Brown is still your head coach. Saban would have never made a move on any job while there was still a coach in place at said job. If Texas was so sure they were going to get Saban they would have fired Brown and offered Saban the job. The fact that Mack Brown will still be your head coach in 2014 speaks volumes to what went down behind the scenes.
The Texas name isn't as strong as you think it is.

I'm not mad but its so ironic that none of you can cite anything legitimately showing this was always the plan
So I'm still waiting for a link

Nick got a new contract in March...he does not win the SEC this year and does not play for the national title, yet he gets nearly a 50% raise yesterday...and we are supposed to believe that the idea of Texas flirting with Nick didn't have anything to do with this?
Of course that's the reason. They may not have been seriously worried that he'd leave, but setting him up with the huge contract sure didn't hurt. Best way to fend off other programs that may come calling in the future.
That's Alabama's attempt to control the message. Leaks from Texas have been the only info up to this point. Alabama just wants to put their own spin on it.
