Baker Buyout is $950K

I did a search here in order NOT to start a new topic but the old topics I found had numbers all over the map. One poster said $800K...another said the entirety of his contract that he just signed, etc. So for clarity and accuracy, a NEW topic. 
These days for a Missouri contract worth about $6,000,000 over 3 years, seems like a bargain to me. 
"Since he is taking another defensive coordinator job, he will owe the school a buyout of $950,000, per Eli Hoff of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch."

That really shows that Drink really didn’t think Baker would leave for anything short of a HC job

It really is astounding how one-sided these contracts are. An underperforming coach will get fired and— most times— collect the full value of the contract; yet, if the coach chooses not to honor the terms, they can generally leave for little penalty. It amazes me that ADs on the whole haven’t pushed back on this.

It would make so much more sense to structure a coaching contract to be performance based with bonuses and incentives for more wins/rewards/championships ect. The current buyout system seems like it almost incentivizes complacency and poor performance.

How would you suggest they do this? Their top targets will simply say thanks but I’ll stay where I am if their terms aren’t met.
Some sort of collusion situation wouldn’t last a month, these AD’s job security is based on hiring successful coaches.

It’s basic supply and demand. Very good coordinations are hard to find and therefore can dictate the terms of their contract.

really, that's it?
i absulutly 100% think he's not leaving but was just wondering how it went the other way.
obviously when coaches get fired, it seems like the majority of their contracts are due to be paid. of course, this can be offset if they get another job.
I was wondering how it worked if the door swung the other way. There's no remediation that correlates to the coach finding another job if fired.
