Auburn hires Derek Mason as DC. I didn't want him here but now we CANT miss on Freeman

I don’t want us to miss on Freeman, but we still have options if Freeman doesn’t work out. I wouldn’t say we “can’t miss on Freeman.” We still have a golden opportunity for a quality DC.

I would take Steele as the fall back option
I think it's gonna be hard to pull Freeman from that part of the country
I think it's Notre Dame over LSU and then eventually he will get a big ten job

I’d love Nielson, scheme wise I like him better than Freeman, but idk if he’s willing to leave the NFL. Heard he’s already getting NFL DC offers.

I could be wrong but I read his post as "I didn't want Mason here even though he would have been a decent fall back plan, so now we can't miss on Freeman since Mason is off of the table."

Why does anyone think this is true? Yeah he went to OSU and is a coach at Cincy because his college defensive coordinator is the HC there. His connections for jobs are naturally in that area. He's 34 years old and I'm sure willing to live anywhere in the country that will offer him the best job. The idea he'd take the ND job because of some regional loyalty is insane to me.

Mason was a desperation 'we fricked up' the process hire. Nobody in their right mind wants Mason at LSU.

IF it aint Freeman, which I am assuming it is, but if it aint, it wont be Neilsen. Unless Neilsen got a hell of alot darker. LSU is going with a minority for DC.

Anybody who didn’t want Mason at LSU isn’t in their right mind. Vanderbilt’s defenses were stout when he fired the dcoordinator and took over the role himself. Everything he’s ever done as dcoordinator is extremely impressive and exciting. Glad we have him and y’all don’t.
