Besides, your analogy is flawed as a lot of LSU fan's can't get their mouths off Saban's crotch long enough to see that Miles is a pretty damn good coach.

I know there are quality coaches out there. But there are way more coaches that would be a bad fit to choose from than coaches that would be a good fit.
The probability of getting a third head coach to bring us a BCS title is slim to none. Even though some people think anyone can win here.

The 05 recruiting class was abysmal. A new coach rt now would give him even les time til signing day than les miles and co had. Not a very good situation for the caliber of players we have in state this year.

Bo Rein... never coached a game, so who knows??
Jerry Stoval -- not successful
Bill Arnsbarger - successful, but "lost" in state recruiting it seems
Mike Archer - not successful
Curly Halman -- the darkest days of LSU FB history
Gerry Dinardo - not successful
Nick Saban - built program but left for NFL -- also had a marginal season following BCS championship.
Les Miles - bemoaned for 2009 Ole Miss debacle, but has excellent winning record, BCS championship and excellent graduation rate and few off-field problems with players
I like Les - and do NOT think it's a given that LSU would improve by hiring another coach if he left... could be the same old stuff starting over... see Alabama in the years b/t Gene Stallings and Nick Saban for example.

Any other year I would agree and Im a big Les fan, but I dont think there are any slam dunk hires out there at all. Heck back in Jan 2005 after saban left us late and Meyer and spurrier had already taken jobs our top 3 canidates were Del Rio-a moderately successful NFL coach, Petrino- taken doormat louisville to contender, and Miles who had taken doormat OSU into a respectable program and beaten big brother OU at their best twice in 4 years. Name 3 canidates with that type of resume that have shown they are wanting to move around/move up

Depends on the judgment of the athletic director. If he is smart he should already have a list of the best candidates. It does not matter if Miles goes or stays the AD should always be aware of the best coaching talent available to either hire or lure away from someone else and yes LSU is an outstanding job.

Curly Halman -- the darkest days of LSU FB history... years later got fired from his job as head coach of a Alabama high school... dude's only claim to fame in life is being Brett Favre's college coach.
Gerry Dinardo - brought back the magic, then lost the magic but at least he made us believe in ourselves again
Nick Saban - took magic to places it hadn't been since 1958... then his magic took a sabbatical in Miami before rediscovering it with a vengeance in T-Town

He was great for squeaking us somewhere between 15 and 25 and was ultra conservative. However I will give you that he was much better than we had in a while.

The biggest myth i have ever seen posted is that people will come here to play for LSU not the HC.
That is the biggest crap i have ever read. No top recruit is going to wake up in the morning and accept a scholly if they have never set foot on campus, talked to the hc or his position coaches. Not to mention its the head coach and the recruiters that still have to sell the program to the kids. And still have to evaluate the kids and offer these kids scholarships.
I watched LSU growing and never set foot on campus until my Sr year of high school when i came and visited. I wasnt going to just decide to come here without ever seeing the campus, especially when i had opportunities to go elsewhere.
Are there some guys who would accept a scholly to LSU on the spot? Yes. But they arent top recruits being recruited by the other big boys.

Naw - what got the dude hired by LSU was that while coach of USM he beat BOTH Alabama and Auburn in the same year... and I'm not sure if that was with Brett Favre at QB or not... but I think it was.

True -- he did return things --- I give him all the credit for returning LSU's home white jerseys -- bringing us to bowls (2 indy bowls and a Peach)... recruiting in the top 25.... and rankings in the lower teir of the top 25.... WAAAAAAY better then the previous coach... but not all that great overall.

Les is 2-2 versus this genius.... IF I were better today... I'd say he's 3-2 head to head after NEXT season.... Nick did what you say he did and was generally loved... but we've moved on and we are actually better now.
