LSU was the very first major program searching for a DC...CEO knew he had to replace Bo after the 5th - 6th game and Seems to only have had 1 target. Freeman.
At this point it's pretty obvious were waiting on the nfl season to end and instead of playing with ourselves were interviewing candidates in the meantime and ranking them ,then if nfl guy says no ,you go to your list and start from the top

We have interviewed two people. One we said no thanks and two went to a different school. So who would they call?

O should have looked at the price tag before bringing the merchandise to the check out counter.
I’m sure he did and based on Arnetts shitty interview, he felt he wasn’t worth it.

would you say the hiring practices under O have produced stellar results? Do you think its OK to probably question this process?
No and there’s plenty of room to question. However, there still this big assumption here that this time around is business as usual. However, it’s not shaping up that way so far. Of the names we know there is real interest in, none are super-safe are retreads.
Hires with O will likely always be a bumpy ride. At least he’s out of the older guys he’s worked with or who Pete recommended comfort zone. I get that O worked with Nielsen before, but he’s not anything like E, Linehan or Pelini.

he didn't even get a sniff of an offer for over a year and...LSU OC> Steelers QB Coach.
That is evident by the Panthers QB coach getting a promotion to LSU OC.

How do you know he didn't want to take a year off.
He had a fat buyout from lsu.
He is getting interviewed for the dolphins oc job

Of course he says that. Who would say, "No one will hire me" Either way, NFL QB coach is a certain step down from LSU OC.

Canada was a stupid hill for that fool earlier in this thread to die on. His career went downhill fast and is currently in neutral. And his college offense, while it looked like a good fit here at the time because it was still an under-center pro-style system, looks pretty dated today in comparison with the best spread and air raid offenses at the top of in P5. Kind of like Malzahn’s offense, it’s creative in the run game and has tons of window dressing, but the passing attack is too simple. You aren’t recruiting big-time QBs with a system like that.
It would be interesting to see what his NFL scheme would look like.

But people would and will hire him.
Many coaches take a year off after getting a huge buyout

You really sound dumb.
He coached maryland right after lsu. 2018 he was maryland's oc and qb coach.
Then the coach got fired and he got them back to almost bowl eligibility.
Then he took a year off. He turned down a few coordinator jobs and spent the year at his beach house.
The point is the guy could've coached.
You don't get interviews for oc positions in the nfl if you can't coach

Even though his college offensive system turned out to be more smoke and mirrors than substance, Canada’s problem isn’t that he can’t coach. His career trajectory is due to him being a complete a-hole who has burned bridges behind him at multiple stops.
I have no doubt O was part of the problem when Canada was here, but he was a serious coaching nomad before arriving at LSU. He left more than one school for similar reasons. Even his buddy at NCST eventually had to dump him. Some of their fans came over here when we hired him and warned us that he can be fool’s gold. He was there longer, but it ended with acrimony, just like here. And then Maryland made a conscious choice to dump him rather than promote him in favor of a guy who has a trunk full of his own baggage.
Maybe he’s learned to get along and be a team player after having to go back to being a position coach. Maybe he’s just more suited to the NFL life, but don’t sell me that Canada left here and proved we were wrong to move on. He absolutely would have held us back from becoming what we did last year. There’s no room for any discussion about that.
For the record, I loved the Canada hire at the time and even thought O should have given him another season in 2018. I’m so glad now that he didn’t, even if the reasoning was suspect.
