Appalachian State fires coach Shawn Clark after five seasons

Clark's buyout dropped from $1 million to $500,000 on Monday, sources told ESPN, and the move comes in the wake of a 5-6 season. Appalachian State had last had a losing season in 2013, when it went 4-8 in Scott Satterfield's first season.

G5 schools around the country are in total shock. This hiring is the perfect example. The expectations are no longer reasonable.

A lot of schools are going to start giving out contracts and unless it’s a firing with cause, they are just going to let the contracts expire.

What are you talking about? He is 20-17 the last 3 years and they looked awful for most of this season. App State expects better than that pure and simple.

Not sure what you're getting at. App State couldn't even get bowl eligible 2 of the last 3 years when they were the preseason favorite to win their division. They have a legitimate gripe about Clark underachieving.

Why would any school by surprised, much less shocked, by this? Appy hasn't been particularly good in several years, which is contrary to the pride, effort and resources they put into the program.
Those who want things like NIL caps, G5 playoffs and other biddy-ball objectives probably aren't happy. Tough sh... They can drop down to FCS if they want those things.

Yeah looking at his overall record I was a little shocked at the firing then I checked his year by year and his record was getting worse.
