Technically, the Fluker situation could pose a bit of a problem but the only documentation of actual agent payment was a small cash payment prior to last year's national title game. I suppose the NCAA could vacate last year's national title and give out a slap on the wrist like they did to Ohio State but that's about the worst that would come from what has been documented.

So probation means nothing? They just came off probation in 2012, to go right back on and much of the Fluker stuff happened during the current probationary period. (I agree with you on the worst case for outcome, but I can still ask the question, right?)

Oh, and a belated congratulations on the Luther Davis sweepstakes all those years ago - that hit just keeps on hitting, doesn't it?

Come again...the "insiders" were saying Thursday at the latest earlier this week after the Board of Regents meeting.

They've been saying that Mac would be gone by Friday or Saturday. Saban wouldn't be hired until Tuesday or Wednesday next week. So nothing has happened to change this schedule yet.

I've never thought he would leave Bama and I still don't think he will. I've wished it, though.
A good shake up is always interesting and entertaining.

Hell, I still don't know whether I think Brown is leaving UT and that's the most plausible thing that could occur right now.

Well - no - there is only a very narrow window in which this could realistically happen. That time is from the instant Mack Brown is fired/resigns/is promoted to the AD - until, roughly December 30th (and even that might be late) - just due to the nature of the beast.

Since there is quite obviously a dogfight going on behind the scenes at Austin, the Mack Brown situation has to be resolved, first. If that happens today, tomorrow, Sunday - whenever - then the short clock starts to run on Saban. He will either, very publicly sign his extension (or have Sexton and Bama proudly announce it) - or it will very much be in play.

I guess the good news if - if he signs the extension, at least you know that it won't cost Bama any more to keep him - he'll get his asking price from Texas or stay put at that point - the bidding war, from Bama's side, will be over.

Now - once the search starts in earnest, and you hear credible talk about credible replacements for Brown being named, interviewed, etc., then the Gumps can relax - a little. But, then, the longer they go without announcing a replacement, it will heat up again in Tuscaloosa.

Just the nature of this particular game and this particular person (actually people, Sexton/Saban).

Other than nailing the interview, and having defeated Stoops twice (Miles was the first to do that) - do you know what the LSU people (particularly Bertman) said the best thing about Miles was? His agent wasn't Jimmy Sexton.

What do you have to lose right? You are only a message board entity that looks like Joe Diffy in the minds of all the other posters on here.

Prediction on how this plays out...

Mack will actually resign early next week...
This board and Shaggy will blow up with Saban to Texas rumors again...
Planes will be tracked...
TheDoc will say it is a done deal some more...
Then, by Wednesday or Thursday, there will still be no announcement of Saban to Texas...
Then Thursday or Friday of next week (because everyone is going to want this done before the week of Christmas), Bama and Saban will release a simple snippet of his contract extension making him the highest paid football coach at any level ever...
Then Texas will end up settling three weeks later for some other coach that has no business running a program like theirs...
The end.

I see something similar happening.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), that only produces a slow, drawn out melt from Texas/Saban to Texas people. Not one big all out melt.

If Texas didn't have "someone" locked up, they wouldn't be pushing Mack to retire.

Who says they are pushing him to retire? Has UT made an announcement to that effect? There is a growing faction of UT people that apparently think he is coming back now (See Chicken's post).

Something like that.

The big all out melt produces the best quotes, but the long drawn out ones can produce a longer time for enjoyment.

Plus, a lot of stuff gets missed when a big all out melt happens.

Folks,

- Money is not an issue at all.
- What Saban says or does not say at this point or any other point means NOTHING. The man has proved many times that he will not be honest (lie) no matter what the situation is. Bama and Texas fans should get this through their head....NOW
- As an LSU fan, I have seen Saban lie and/or spin the truth with no regard for what the fans want or think.
- I believe Saban will even lie to his own family about what his intentions really are.
- Saban's ego must be stroked no matter who it involves because he is ate up with short man disease.
- He will be at Texas next year....that fits his MO.
- I don't really give a shite one way or the other, but Saban is all about Saban! He has no loyalty to anyone or anything except himself... PERIOD! He has proved this time and time again, and each time he sais before splitting the scene that he loves where he is at and would never leave.

Saban is a great coach, maybe the best college coach ever, but if he stays at Bama I will be very surprised, and maybe even give him an ounce of respect.
