I know that he is currently preparing for a big bowl game for Cincinnati, but is there any smoke on him from any place but here?

Cincinnati moves him up if Fickell gets hired away, IMO.

Right so he probably is waiting to see what Fickell does before taking another job.

I think it’s more likely that he follows Fickel to a place like Michigan. I think that’s the job he has his eye on, because OSU won’t be open for a long time unless Ryan Day heads to the NFL, which I doubt happens.

I think we need to make him a top candidate, but he may not be interested in leaving his boss, who is a legit rising star, just for a pay raise.

Check out Dandydon this morning. He has a link from tigerdetails and Freeman is the first Coach listed. Reading the article, I feel he should be our number one choice.

Supposedly he is holding out for a prime Big 10 job. OSU is locked down and Franklin is safe at PSU unless he keeps having seasons like this one, which I doubt. Michigan is Fickel’s best shot and it doesn’t look like Harbaugh is getting fired this year. If it did happen late, I would bet Fickel is their hire.

Fickel is very safe at Cincy if he wants to wait for the job he wants. He’s a great coach and they, UCF and Memphis are the 3 best recruiting programs in the G5. Those 3 teams have all played for and won AAC titles in the last 3 years. The same will just keep repeating until he leaves.

LSU is coming off a Natty.. with a suspect coach who half the fan base isn’t fond of.. Furthermore, the talent is exceptional and the young players have experience. Also, you have 2/3 viable QBs.. with two more on the way.

If I’m Marcus Freeman, this seems like the best head coach in waiting job in college football. I take, coach my arse off and wait. No matter what, I’m a head coach somewhere in 2 years.

Yes and if he decides to stay in Cincy this year it would be smart for Freeman to take a P5 DC job to prove he can do it without Fickel and if he does well going back to Cincy would be the next logical step if they want him.

I like Freeman the best, unfortunately I think Mason is a smoke screen to say we interviewed and entertained the diversity hire so we can go ahead with Nielson. I love Nielson as the hire, just like Freeman a little better.

Just posted in another thread how disappointed I’ll be if we don’t make a legitimate run at Freeman. If he leaves in a few years it’s because he was successful.

I like Nielson as well.

I'm just not sure Freeman is interested in leaving. I read an article on him the other night about all the opportunities he's had to move on from Cincinnati... the Titans offered him the LB coaching position..Mel Tucker who was his DC at Ohio State offered him the DC job at Michigan State and he declined.

I mean you'd think a chance to jump to a P5 conference and to coach for a guy he played for would be appealing. He says he wants to be a head coach and Cincinnati has him on track to do that.

Maybe so but doubling his salary and giving him the DC position at LSU is a little more than the two options you just posted. That’s just my opinion though brother. If you are correct I at least make him tell me NO after making a solid effort to lure him here.

One thing I like is that everyone seems to have a shite defense this year but somehow Cinci through all this turmoil found a way to coach them up. Even if Freeman isn't somehow heavily involved with scheming over there(which would be bullshite), they know how to handle this Chinese Virus pandemic. Bring his arse over here just for that reason alone because even with the vaccine coming it doesn't look like this is going to slowdown for next season and with a democrat for governor there's no way JBE is letting us run at even 50% capacity. Another reason you need younger coaches. They can figure this shite out through better technology or something. Dinosaurs probably couldn't even use Zoom calls properly.

Shhh... people will not like to hear realistic views. They'll just assume CEO did not even consider it, because we didn't hear about it. And all the "make him say no offer"... Not everyone is money driven. Especially, when you're comfortable and settled. Its going to be a long off-season. I'm sure we'll get back on track, once it all plays out.

I’m not saying that we aren’t an attractive job. But some coaches are loyal to the rising guy they got their start with. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if Freeman is waiting to make a move up with Fickel to a big job. From there, I’m sure he knows he can write his ticket pretty much anywhere.

I know Michigan St isn’t in the same class as LSU, but it’s still a good P5 job at a middle program in the B10 that has proven it can punch above that position with the right coach. Freeman turned them down. If he turns us down, then he’s not leaving Cincy without Fickel.

Maybe so. It’s hard to read minds and we know he’s already turned down one P5 DC job, so we’ll see. He’s high on my list, so I hope he will listen. I just don’t think it’s guaranteed.
