I'd handle with care. Got lucky with a transfer QB. He has failed at every other stop.

Didn't he bring in over 30 transfers?

No he hasnt. He was nails at LaTech. Which is his only other HC besides Cal. So hes literally succeeded at 66% of his stops.

Also other than his 4th year at Cal he improves every season every where he goes.

I always give a pass for Cal coaches. It's awful hard to win consistently there. I mean you had the students protesting the team, chaining themselves to trees, wishing team ill will, calling them names, etc

Ted won there. Surrounded by great talent. At a min you should question his decision making skills by accepting the job.

Dykes didn't fail at La Tech and he wasn't horrible at California either.
But that he didn't blow 'em away at Cal might make other schools reluctant.
He found a good niche at SMU - 32 transfers, 17 graduate. He might be a trend-setter.
32 transfers is also suggestive of the real talent that the supposed great recruiter Morris left behind....at SMU and Arkansas.

One of these days, some coaches will realize they’ll be more successful at smaller schools than they are at major programs. Dykes fits perfect at SMU.

And SMU is LOADED so they'll pay someone pretty damn well to keep them in the fringe top 25 every year.

I wouldn't say he got lucky. He recruits transfer heavy. That's his style.

Most of us scoff at the idea of him being the hire. I personally don't. But we wouldn't be "lucky" either. If that is who the higher ups wanted he is probably the easiest get of the candidates listed. Plus he is a risk. He might just be a perfect fit for a G5 job.

Correct. The real reason he was let go was because he openly continued to interview for other gigs, even though Cal gave him an extension the previous season to keep him from leaving.
