That's the problem. You think he's ready, but you don't know because he's never done it.
We shouldn't be hiring people who will be learning on the job, especially after the worst season since 1999.
We should be hiring people who we know can do the job because they've shown it already.

NFL position coaches are hired for NFL and college DC jobs all the time. Ohio State's DC was an NFL position coach with no DC experience.
I'm not advocating for Nielsen, but too much stock is put into this.

Outside of Steele who’s being mentioned that has coached a top 10 defense in the SEC in the past 5 years.
fricking no one.
So we just THINK whatever experience they have will translate.

I don't think it's Nielson because Coach O said he should have a DC by the end of the week.
Well, he said tat LAST week, so...
that is my gut feeling also. I think O purposefully didn't offer Freeman what ND would offer, knowing that he had a deal with Nielson all along. He had to interview Freeman just because he was the hot ticket, and also others just to do his due diligence in case something went awry with Neilson. But I'm comfortable knowing that Nielson will be our next DC.
And if not him for some reason, next up will be Reeves.

shite like that doesn't happen.
It that was the case, he wouldn't have gone on national radio and made himself look stupid
Y'all give o way to much credit for thinking ahead. Believe it or not derek does a lot of the leg work
O's favorite phrase is "we didn't know how good he was till he got here".

A contradiction. It's NOT always been Nielsen or O wouldn't have whiffed on Freeman or publicly interview the BungDogs DC. He's already down to his second choice, possibly third even. If Nielsen was the guy than O shouldn't have let the other interviews become public. Bad look even if Nielsen is hired.

Freeman, Nielsen, Odom...I’m hopeful that’s it’s Nielsen. A lot of smoke there for Nielsen now too.

While I think Nielsen was O’s first choice I think he was swayed to consider others and Freeman truly is a unicorn so he went all in on him. Now I do think it’s Nielsen or bust and do believe that Arnett would’ve had to do the impossible during the interview to get the gig. Hoping O is the only one making this decision and doesn’t have to contend with what peoples whose jobs won’t be on the line if he loses are telling him to do.

I’d rather Orgeron seek guidance in making this hiring decision, but that’s just me.

According to Brodie Miller, Arnett's issue during the interview was that he wasn't very engaging and that's an issue they had with Pelini.
That doesn't mean the DC has to be fiery as Aranda was a calm guy but he was very engaging when he spoke and Pelini was fiery as all hell but didn't connect with the players.
