A reason why Jimbo might jump ship for LSU

OU and Texas will be joining the SEC in the next year or two. Once that occurs, recruiting Texas becomes significantly more difficult. Aggie likely starts to slip once they have to compete with their former Big XII competition.

He and Scott have a solid relationship, he knows the state and LSU and could lock down recruiting within a talent rich LA. At the moment aggie is trending higher than LSU, but LSU is the the better long term opportunity.

Looks like Jimbo is the coach du jour.

JIMBO DAY

Yeah. He's not my first choice or even Top 3. He was back in 2016, but I know he would do well here.

He's not an exciting choice by any means, but we know he can do the job.

I don't think it's a done deal anyway. Until the coach is named officially I still expect us to end up with Tucker. And no, he is not even in my top 2 tiers of choices.

The biggest reason I would want Jimbo is bc he is doing really good in recruiting and it would hurt A&M recruiting wise...not my first choice but I wouldn't be mad

I posted this yesterday. A&M is only attractive to TX recruits and now they can’t recruit based on “if you want to stay in Tx and play in the SEC, we are the only game in town.”

Jimbo is the next coach barring some major change.

I like that reasoning, but for Lincoln Riley

Because LSU is a significantly better job and he knows he has a ceiling at A&M. He also hates his bosses and the culture at A&M

Have you legitimately heard that Jimbo is working a deal with LSU? Or is is just smoke? Also do you know if he had already agreed to keep the 3 assistant coaches that are rumored to be staying?

Vol, do you know if we are currently working a deal with Jimbo and if the smoke is legit?

Is our chance with Riley off the table? Have we moved on to Jimbo?

I was starting to think my info was smoke because of all the attention this is gaining.

But no other coach has been talked about by vol like this. This is actually happening.

Going to be difficult to keep this under wraps thorough the season finale….that last game will be interesting if the future HC is on sidelines for the Ags on TS next month.

I posted this on another thread, but it fits here as well:

I'm not excited about Jimbo, but lets look this objectively.
-Everyone wants Riley (me included) but he consistently gets beat by the SEC top teams. He also has lost to lesser teams.
-Fickell has done well at Cincy, but we don't know how he will do in the SEC
-Kiffin (my 2nd choice) is a great offensive guy, but we don't know how good he is as a HC yet and if "bad Kiffin" will come back
-Aranda (love the guy) but has limited HC experience
-Napier has a lot of potential, but would be a high risk jump to P5 SEC
-Tucker uninspiring pick and limited track record
-Franklin has the Vandy baggage and some bizarre actions at Penn St that give me pause

So the bland Jimbo has:
-Proven success as an SEC HC
-Has won a NC and multiple 10+ win seasons at FSU
-Recruits well and develops QBs
-Knows LSU and could step in with an easy transition

Jimbo is far from a perfect choice, but who on our list is? Riley is our HR candidate, but look at how he's done this year with a loaded team. He barely beat 1 win Tulane and Kansas, had to come from behind vs Texas and struggled with Nebraska, WVU, and K State.

I know there have been discussions on all of those things. I believe he wants to be here for reasons I posted before. Will it ultimately happen? Only time will tell. If I had to place a bet today, I would say he is our next coach. Is he my first choice? No. Just relaying what I’ve been told.

I’ll also add since everyone keeps assuming… I’ve not once said that Jimbo is THE target for Woodward. A target, sure.

If this is true, it's hard to imagine it being kept under wraps for the next month. That is.....

....Unless Scott Woodward really is the James Bond we hope he is....

The thought of the major screwing this would put on Aggieland is hilarious to me......

I think Riley is the target still and Jimbo would be after.
