Frank Wilson back as OC. Also his recruiting is a big plus. LSU OC salary a lot more than what he is getting as HC now.

To be honest I don't think it matters who the head coach is, we just fired a excellent head coach with a few major flaws... We need a coach who will bring the right mindset to this team and maximize every players ability. Also let coordinators do there job. And most importantly coach the team, make adjustments and develop

Shaw is boring, and his offense looks alot like les miles in formation. He of course has more success with it.

He has kept the stanford train rolling, but I'm not sure how he would do here.

It could also be some trent johnson stink on him as silly as that seems, he was good at stanford and then when he got here it was horrible. Also his boy Mason isn't dong well though he is at Vandy.

I have softened up on a hard no to a wait and see on him.

I think LSU goes hard after the big two (Jimbo/Herman) and if they cant make it happen, it goes one of two ways. Either they go with the solid safe hire (Coach O or Larry Fedora) or they make a big splash hire (Kiffin/Petrino.) Should be interesting.

That's a pretty good list, with one glaring exception. Kiffin was a horrible head coach at USC and there is absolutely no reason to give him a chance at LSU. Just because he is a good OC for Saban, doesn't mean he can be a good head coach. Let some other program take that chance.

LSU is still going through the most successful period in program history and the formula for hiring successful coaches is clear: Hire a successful head coach from another major program and hand him the talent and facilities to continue being successful.

Larry Fedora, North Carolina - Very unenthusiastic hire. Look at his overall accomplishments. Meh

Jimbo Fisher, FSU - 1a or 1b

Tom Herman, Houston - 1a or 1b

Chip Kelly, SF 49ers - Interesting, but doubt he leaves the NFL.

Lane Kiffin, Alabama OC - Toxic, no.

Ed Orgeron, LSU interim - He'll be considered if they can really reel off some wins, including Bama but would be another guy like Miles. What does he really do besides recruit and DL? He would need high-priced coordinators. I think LSU should get an offensive guy who IS the offense. Not a figure head coach aka Miles, Mack, etc.

Gary Patterson, TCU - Doubt he'd leave. Highly paid, lower pressure, easier conference.

Chris Peterson, Washington - Not sure why he gets thrown around. Dude is NOT leaving the PNW. He has a special needs kid and loves that region of the country.

Bobby Petrino, Louisville - Toxic, huge buyout with Louisville.

David Shaw, Stanford - Interesting but I don't think he'd leave his alma mater and the WC.

Other coaches who will definitely not be coming include Gruden (sigh, stop with this shite), Del Rio, Tressel (Seriously?).

Right now the list seems small. What NFL coordinators could possibly make the leap?

you will kiss the LK ring soon. I think he is on the splash second tier hire. He is probably a 50/50 shot but if LK hits it big then we hit it really big with him. He isn't going anywhere if he wins at LSU, he already was fired from his dream job and washed out the NFL.

Also I think les miles horrid offense is fueling some of the want for a LK type guy because we see his potential.

I'm kind of intrigued some y'all really don't like Shaw. I think he would be a home run though I don't see him leaving Stanford except for maybe the NFL. Fedora is kind a poor man's Herman as far as his offensive style but that would be a pretty meh hire to me.

I don't see Patterson or Shaw leaving where they're at. Kelly only if he's fired.

I don't think an NFL oc coming here will go well. It didn't work when ND brought in fat boy and then he failed at UF. We also have watched a semi NFL oc put up offenses that were putrid.

I honestly think going the college route is better than a NFL oc. its a whole different ball game in the NFL vs college.

Mcdaniels is an interesting name but i haven't really looked to see his background other than working under belli

I really think its shaws offensive style that is making people say no to him. Also he has had some serious talent at stanford and no championship appearance to show for it.

I think it's a pretty simple process for TAF to work through.

1.) Throw a bunch of money at a proven, NC wining, head coach (Jimbo).
2.) If #1 says no, throw a bunch of money at the coach most people around the country think is the next big deal (Herman).
3.) If #2 says no, make a decision if you want to hire a proven HC who has issues but can win (Petrino) or a great OC who has sucked at HC but could turn it around (Kiffen) or if YawYaw does a good job during the last 8 games give it to him.

There are probably way more names on the list that none of us are considering, but that would be my thought logic if I was TAF.

Please explain. Why "please God no".to Shaw, of all the guys listed? That is an amazing position to take considering his success at Stanford with the academic recruiting restraints. Maybe there is something I am unaware of concerning Shaw that would bring that response from you.

He is literally Les Miles

He's had talent at Stanford but not the kind he could have at a school like LSU. I get the style thing from yalls perspective but they execute so much better than LSU ever did on offense and have a clear identity. I dunno, I don't think he would leave anyways

they execute better than use because Shaw actually recruits to his system. Les was trying to go dual threat qb with a pro style OC and then put him in some abortion from the 1970s offense this isn't nearly as good looking as what stanford does.

Shaw just feels like a meh hire.

I don't think we need to go crazy wide open spread but people are going to want to open it up some

Larry Fedora, North Carolina - maybe a 2nd tier option
Jimbo Fisher, FSU - 1A
Tom Herman, Houston - 1B
Chip Kelly, SF 49ers - Doubt he would mesh with donors
Lane Kiffin, Alabama OC - will not happen
Ed Orgeron, LSU interim - He would have to win out.
Gary Patterson, TCU - He isn't leaving TCU.
Chris Peterson, Washington - He isn't leaving PNW. Daughter medical care.
Bobby Petrino, Louisville - Baggage. Won't happen.
David Shaw, Stanford - He isn't leaving his alma mater.

I like:

Jimbo
Herman
Orgeron (if he wins out)]
Ken Niumatalolo
Dan Mullen (would we go after division rival's coach?)
Mike MacIntyre
Bill O'Brien
Larry Fedora
Frank Wilson (not a serious candidate this time but will get an interview)

Well, pro football is pretty much done with him, so his decision to stay may not be in the cards.

Petersen, Shaw, and Patterson aren't moving.

I don't want Petrino or Kiffin

Chip Kelly isn't happening. I think he'll go to USC if he leaves the NFL.

O or Fedora will have us having this conversation again in three years.

@heartbreak re Frank. (sorry for the two-week-delayed bump, I've been off and on with the site.) I think your comments are quite fair--they too short of proven winning record argument. But I still think you can tell a lot about how a guy will manage other coaches, recruiting, and leadership based on one season of work. I don't disagree with ya, though.
