I'm a little over 400 pages of The Wise Mans Fear by Pat Rothfuss. Still got a while to go but Name of the Wind is much better.

If you haven’t, check out Devil in the White City and In the Garden of Beasts by the same author. Both really really good.

Is that related to the Netflix series?

About 2/3 done. It's OK but far short of Stephenson at his best, so hopefully it's mostly Galland's writing. The time travel seems borderline idiotic but it is largely a satire/farce.

The Stone Sky. The last book in the Broken Earth Trilogy. Depending on how the rest of the year shapes out, this could be he first trilogy to sweep the Hugo’s.

Did not realize this was a book. Will most definitely check it out. I love the Netflix series.

One of the few times I can say I liked the movie better. Book isn't bad, just seems a little disjointed to me the way it's put together.

THE PEOPLE'S GROCER: JOHN G. SCHWEGMANN, NEW ORLEANS, AND THE MAKING OF THE MODERN RETAIL WORLD

Fascinating. Extremely well researched. Unusually well written. Costco, Walmart, K Mart and Sam's Epiphany in New Orleans in the 1950s. The book is a stunning achievement.

I remember as child making groceries with my parents at the Schwegmann's on Airline Hwy at Labarre Rd. There was a massive L shaped bar in the front of the store on the right just past the front doors. There were a bunch of bar tables and chairs out front of the bar enclosed by a low gated iron railing. It was always packed with the menfolk drinking their Falstaff, Schwegmann's beer or cocktails while the Moms and kids shopped.

A time lost and gone forever.

Finished Fire and Fury a couple of days ago. On the one hand, it's tabloid journalism and should be taken with a grain of salt. On the other hand, it's an embarrassing account of how ill prepared the Trump campaign and administration were. Having a real Chief of Staff has resolved many of those problems, but Trump is still Trump and he's completely unsuited temperamentally for the presidency.

Just finished Post Office by Bukowski. I was prepared to be disappointed, but it was funnier than I expected and his writing is very lyrical, very poetic even in novel form.

Going to start The Marriage Plot by Eugenides here soon.
