Other Shards are shady as hell as well just look at Autonomy
Autonomy was poised to be the big bad in Mistborn Era2 so I kept expecting her to be mentioned in Stormlight but don’t think she was. Would be interesting to see her reaction to Retribution

I agree with most of your opinions and criticisms but at the same time I still enjoyed WAT and judge it less harshly than you.
Three things right off the top of my head I could do without. The Renarin/Rlain romance, Kaladin being a therapist, and the Blackthorn zombie thing. Esp the Blackthorn thing. Hate the idea of that.

I’m also not excited about having to wait another 10-15 years for the finale, we’ll see how it goes.
Yeah I think it’s definitely a mistake to set Stormlight down for so long. I understand he has a lot of other projects and interests and needs a break. I understand a five year gap. But a decade minimum ? shite, that’s a long time to plan ahead. This is his magnum opus and should take precedence over some of those side projects.

I avoided posting in this thread since I was disappointed in book 5. Overall, I think it's a good book, but it cemented to me that Sanderson isn't what I had hyped him up to be. So I created the letdown for myself.
I'll continue to read because I want to know what happens next, but I really think Sanderson needs the break because I can only hope time gets him in a better mindset to finish the series well.
ETA: Also really loved Adolin's arc. I just really wish that Sanderson wouldn't have forced him to be peg leg steve. Very odd. Couldn't help but think it was some type of disability inclusion decision.
I do wonder if Sanderson has the balls to make Shallan pregnant in Shadesmar, but considering he just made up a few things to fix the few big tragedies in WaT, I doubt it.

and the final thought that none of it mattered at all,
This is the exact same thought process that Kaladin struggled with throughout the whole arc. People die, nothing changes, why does anything matter?

After someone pointed it out on a fb thread it was pretty obvious Shallan is pregnant at the end of the book. “She might never see Adolin again. Her hands went to her stomach, cradling it. Oh…oh storms…” “she could survive. She had to. Not just for herself.”

The world building and plot buildup from the first few books was so incredible that it was almost to have some letdown.
I think of it this way. I just finished Abercrombie’s First Law trilogy which I did enjoy. Highly acclaimed series from a respected author. And yet it felt simple, mundane, and small compared to Stormlight. Stormlight is so incredibly vast, complex, and imaginative, and with so many secrets and mysteries to unravel.
Dark Tower got pretty weird. Wheel of Time had its slog. Rothfuss and the fat man won’t even finish their stories. So I give Sanderson a lot of grace and even a slightly disappointing Stormlight book is still pretty damn good.

It was definitely the implication, but it was more obvious that Taravangian killed his family and friends but he worked his way out of that one.

Odium wanted them dead. Taravangian saved them.

Not exactly. In the last Taravangian chapter we learn that he had carved out a replica of Karbranth in the Spiritual Realm, then moved everyone there before the wave hit.
From his back and forth with Jasnah, it may be that he came upon the idea of destroying Karbranth through the power of Odium (the power seeing friends and loved ones as a weakness) but Taravangian the man did a sleight of hand. The way all of that played out makes me wonder if the Shards have awareness (or, at least, as much awareness) in the Spiritual Realm as they do in reality because some of that whole scenario read like the power did not know about the switcharoo (or it could be that I forgot where it did).

Odium and Taravangian didn't want to lose. Had nothing to do with wanting to kill everyone in Karbranth. He just didn't want another shard to have any leverage over him.

Oathbringer was starting to drag for me a bit. Last couple hundred pages, especially Shallan's storyline, were my least favorite of the series so far. Thankfully Wit got mixed in with Shallan's to add some intrigue.
But just passed the assault on the palace/Elhokar's death. That was fun. Sad, but a fun read. I was just thinking prior to that that he is bound to kill off a main character at some point, given the number of pages, relatively few players have been killed off. As soon as Elhokar started saying the words I was like O god something is about to happen.
Not sure who/what this Sja-anat is. She was just introduced, but pretty sure it was a bad idea to open the Oathgate.
Finally confirmed that it was Dalinar responsible for Evi's death. Yeesh, bad situation. Dalinar was not a good guy, have a little different opinion of him now.

I finished WaT last night. I've been avoiding this thread until I was done. Overall, I'd give it a B+. Mainly because besides the Adolin sequence in the Sanderlanche, the ending felt underwhelming.
Though i understand it because it's setting up the last 5 SA books and the other Cosmere novels now that the different planets like Scadriel are caught up in timeline with Roshar. The epilogue shows that WaT happened during era 2 Mistborn. I wonder if it's possible we'll see a scene with Wit and Wayne.
Some thoughts:
-If you can combine lights to make Towerligtht and Warlight, you should be able to separate them right? If so, then Stormlight could be retrieved from those two hybrid lights. This would allow the existing Radiants to function
-I wanted more Lift and Vasher; what power does her Aviar grant her?
-Is Dalinar really gone? I assume so but interesting that his soul/cognitive shadow was claimed by another (Cultivation?) which protected him from Retribution
-Will read the prior posts and comment

About 200 pages left in Oathbringer. Definitely dragging. Could turn the pages fast enough in each book prior to this but it is a bit of a slog. First book of his I feel like has had a good bit of filler to it. I'm stlll enjoying it, but it's easily my least favorite so far. Currently they are in the Stranger Things upside down world and Syl was just captured. Hopefully it picks up now with that happening. And hopefully Dalinar is done sulking.
Adolin caring so much about his clothes has become a funny character trait/running joke. If they ever make this into a show they could have fun with that. Really hoping that Kaladin and Shallan don't start liking each other but it seems like that's where it's headed. Adolin doesn't deserve that.

You're gonna pick up big time in a bit.
I appreciated Oathbringer MUCH more on reread. Same with RoW.

Yeah I’ve reread the series and never thought either book dragged.

After I finished Wind and Truth, I went back to read most of the Cosmere I skipped. I still have a few others but I’m taking a break from Sanderson for a bit.
Mistborn Era 1 - Allomancy > Stormlight.
Secret History - I think I liked having read Stormlight first because I have a completely new perspective on the Ghostbloods now that I know who leads them.
Mistborn Era 2 - Wayne is the best Cosmere character. His accents in the audiobook made it worth price alone.
Dawnshard - Nice to get more Lopen and some backstory on the events in W&T.
Sunlit Man - Mad Max in space might be my favorite Cosmere book. Another one that I’m glad I read after WaT
