I feel like I did back in the GoT days on MTV, being a Maester watching the Hodor thread questions but not answering because I don't want to spoil anything.

I have never hated a literary or fictional character more than Moash. Ever. This dude’s death better be brutal and satisfying.

Adolin looses to a Thunderclast again after it smashes through the other shardbearer grinding him to a pulp. That was rough. Adolin has been by far my favorite character in this series. Man I hope something awesome is in store for him. Loss after loss and defeat after defeat despite being the best fighter alive all because he doesn’t have a bond and powers. It feels like it’s so close. Maya is on her way back and he felt the armor responding to him.

And then Taln stood up.

If Adolin is dead I will burn this book and curse Sanderson forever.

Renarin and Rlain stop loooking for a solution to the end of the world to jerk each other off for a few minutes while Shallan watches giggling from the window. Nothing better to do I guess. Not like there’s people dieing out there.

We don’t have time to see a stoneward swear his forth ideal or Taln make a heroic last stand, but we do get Dalinar making out with a Direform Parshman. I’m starting to feel like the kid in Princess Bride… kissing again, skip along to the fire swamp. That sounded good.

“Honor” imprisoned BoMishram, broke his oaths, abandoned the heralds, abandoned the radiants, abandoned the spren, abandoned humanity. I’m wondering if Dalinar is going to shatter the power across Roshar.

Lift finds and rescues Vasher. Lift has been an “awesome” character since her novella. I’ll have to go back and re-read edgedancer.

Szeth’s journey continues to be the best part of this book even with Kaladin acting like a dipsit. The Dustbringer Monostary. I hope Szeth doesn’t have to fight a family member at some point. And his decision to not carry Nightblood is confusing.

…..welp. So much for not fighting a family member. I hate when I’m right

Taravangian is such a well written villain. He appears to Jasnah just to mess with her as he knows she’s a scholar so that would do the most damage to her.

I’m almost expecting to read soon that Adolin looses an eye and just becomes a full on pirate now that he has a peg leg.

Venli seems to have found the well of power like Vin once did.

I think the “new” Heralds and a new Oathpact is too easy an ending. That much is proven by Honor’s betrayal and Dalinar’s quest. Navani keeps having notes about sound waves canceling each other out by opposites. Maybe Dalianr just sacrifices himself. Witt already alluded to Vin giving up the power to save Elend earlier. Maybe Dalinar takes up the power and instead of holding on to it in a fight with Odium he destroys them both.

10 years ago When Szeth finally met “The voice” it was in a room with hundreds of tortured spren. Corrupted and tortured by an unmade. He runs back to the monastery now knowing the truth and organizes a rebellion with his Shaman. How do they break him, declare him truthless, and force him to be bound to the oathstone? He seems so confident and skilled right now.

The theory we had in here during RoW that Shallan caused the desolation by killing her mom and Taln never broke being confirmed was well done.

Dalinar reliving every shite moment of his life from the perspective of other people is a brutally awful torture. Again strengthening Taravangian as tGOAT. Elokar as a budding radiant crushed by Dalinar was rough. And now he’s going to live as Evi burning alive at his own hand with Gav there to witness it. Thankfully we don’t have to read that and he fights his way out. I can feel the book beginning to snowball to its ending.

The end of Day 8

I’m not going to be happy if this book ends with “fighting was never the answer, we have to be better.” 4 books of building up an amazing magic system and fight system and characters with amazing abilities and combat skills and a whole 5th book of the culmination of that on both sides evil mad badass fighters vs good radiant soldiers ending with “so we all hugged it out” would absolutely suck.

for a second I really thought he was going to kill Witt in an interlude.

Honor has a serious narcissism complex. He’s not sympathetic and neither is cultivation. But we do see why he hates humanity. He loved the Singers and humans fled to Roshar after odium gave them powers of destruction and loosed death upon Roshar.

Navani is at the day Elhokar died. Which means we get to see Captain frickhead if she makes it to his death. We are spared watching Kaladin fail and Moash kill him again. Thankfully. The old granny woman and her toddler have escaped a torturous hellscape.

Szeth in his first battle and conquered town is my favorite short 3 pages of this book so far. A young, broken, out of place person thrust into knowledge he didn’t want and a position he’s unprepared for knowing what needs to be done but unable to properly execute it. I love Szeth’s entire arc so far from the very beginning to now.

So the Windrunners and Skybreakers have basically always been at odds. Jezerien was the king of the original empire that sided with Odium and Nale’s uncle his enemy that refused. That puts Nale in a whole new light. Though it seems a little messed up if he’s actively helping torture Spren with an unmade.

This is so funny reading these

Such a badass moment and it was handled really well for being mostly off-screen. I wonder if that's one of the parts he cut.

250 pages in on Oathbreaker. Not sure on what the gereal consensus in on where Oathbreaker ranks in terms of everyone's favorites but it's definitely the slowest so far. Big arse book so I'm sure it'll pick up, not worried about that.

Dalinar's back story is picking up but I'm shaking my head because why are we giving away more shardblades to the wrong people. Why woud Dalinar give a shardblade to Amaram? First Kal giving one to Moash (surprised he hasn't shown up in the story yet) and now Dalinar to Amaram. Come on people.

So many people and places I am having a hard time keeping up. Every chapter is introducing new people and I'm thinking can we slow down with all these characters please sir I'm dumb.

Did have a question for any of yall. Not sure what "the thrill" is for Dalinar. I don't know if it was explained earlier and I somehow missed it but it's already a couple times already mentioned when he gets the thrill and he almost becomes The Bloody Nine and zones out and goes off on anyone around. This last flashback when he got it it was about to make him kill his brother. You don't have to tell me if that is something that is a spoiler but just wondering if I maybe missed the explanation for it.

Saying anything would be a spoiler. Even me saying that is a spoiler. Even me saying that me saying is a spoiler is a spoiler. They have talked about "the thrill" since book 1.

Anyhoo, I do have a lot of thoughts on W&T as I finished it last week finally, but I believe I will hold onto them for a little bit.

The Thrill is an Alethi trait not specific to Dalinar. Comparing the effects to the Bloody Nine is pretty accurate. You will get more information about it soon.

Got ya. Ok no need to answer then

I guess I didn't notice it in the first two books. Obviously becoming something more important.

Really curious as to what happened with Evi's death. It's been hinted at now that he might have had a role in it. Since he's pretty much blocked out everything that happened with her the thrill kicking in would make sense. He was clearly a rougher/more cut throat person in years past but I can't see him killing his wife. That would also be a little too obvious with the hints and he does a pretty dang good job hiding the surprises he throws at you.

I’ve been reading the Cosmere out of order. Started with Stormlight (I missed Dawnshard) and now I’ve gone back to start Mistborn. Finished Mistborn Era 1 and the extremely short Eleventh Metal and now I’m starting Alloy of Law. How does Era 2 compare to 1? I’m already digging the upgrades in technology.

It’s the chapter I just read last night and I guess I read it wrong. About to pick the book back up and read it again I guess. But bridge four shows Dalinar Oathbringer and he basically asks the stormfather if the dead spren could be made alive again because he can hear their screams when he picks it up. stormfather says he can’t. Dalinar then takes the blade to Ialai and lays it on the floor as a gift. Amaram was there on Ialai’s side and he picks up the sword. Amaram and Dalinar have some words and Dalinar leaves with Amaram holding the blade.

I just took that as Amaram was now going to be using it. That’s obviously wrong But starting back up now.

You're not wrong, just mistaken. He returned Sadeus' shardblade, Oathbringer, to Sadeas' widow. He didn't give it Amaram.

Both were good IMO

Wayne is awesome

SPOLIERS FOR SUNLIT MAN AND W&T

Thought it was neat how we got to see Szeth‘s highspren be the one that bonds Sigzil eventually. Obviously he did some growing after Szeth denounced his oaths

I liked Era 2 more than 1. The stakes didn't seem as high but the characters were a lot more likeable and there was a lot of humor spread through, mainly from Wayne.

Different but good. First book was OK but the rest of them really shine. I love the characters.

Got ya. I was taking it as him returning it to Ialai, then she was allowing Amaram to have it.

The very next chapter was Shallan investigating the murder and them discovering Re-Shephir. That was probably her best chapter of this book so far. Not the biggest fan of her story but Pattern developing more has helped a lot. I actually really like Pattern. I like the spren in general, Syl is arguably my favorite character.

Just read chapter 38 “Broken People”
in Oathbringer. The chapter where Jasnah and Navani join Dalinar in his vision for the first time. Obviously a pretty big chapter.

Man this book makes me feel so dumb. I feel like I’m a decently smart guy and usually grasp difficult stuff in fantasy books pretty good. But this is the first book/series that thousands of pages in I’m still not wrapping my head around things. Not sure if that’s how it was with some of yall but dang I feel stupid

Maybe yall can help me with a few things because I don’t really want to go past this chapter without a little clarification. There were numerous things I didn’t get but I’ll just mention the main thing(s)…

1. Honor creates the Oathpact/10 Heralds so they can try and defeat the Voidbringers who turns out just reincarnate to Parshmen. Ok got that. But it’s Desolations role and the whole Damnation part I’m not getting. I guess I misinterpreted what desolation actually is because i don’t know what is actually coming every certain amount of years (coming more frequently as well).

2. The Heralds would return to Damnation willingly to be tortured because that would hold back Desolation? Then I guess 9 of them were pretty much breaking under pressure often so they left it up to the Herald to never break hoping he would just endure torture forever. But he eventually breaks and now they have a new Desolation?

3. Recreance. This might just be my memory struggling but I don’t remember this being mentioned.

No worries if my stupidity can’t be helped
