One of the most “experimental” novels of all time, supposedly.

It shows up on every list of best lit since the 80s, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

The goodreads reviews are surprisingly divided.

For those who have read it, thoughts?

I tried it. Couldn't finish it. That's all I got.

I loved it. There is nothing else like it.

But I also know people who couldnt finish it. So it seems to really be a "love it or hate it" book.

It is something I would suggest going into blind, so hopefully the goodreads reviews didnt spoil what makes it unique.

House of Leaves seems to be one of those books that people either love or hate. Very little middle ground.

Make sure you pay attention to, and read, the footnotes.

I've read it twice, and was enraptured both times. A times, I find myself thinking about the novel, and the oddness of the Navidson house.

I've read it. The sections of the book about events in the house are propulsive and haunting. The superimposed plot regarding the narrator can seem contrived and flimsy. The meta-commentary and interpretation is often pedantic and tedious. There are some fairly enjoyable, raunchy sex scenes.

Read it many years ago. I liked the idea but not the execution. I found it tedious to read, overall.

It blew my mind when I was 15. Held up as a great read in my 20s. I've always wondered if I'd have the same affection if I'd read it the first time as an adult.

I first read it in my late 30s and a second time a year ago. It definitely stuck with me. I wouldn't say I loved the book - though I certainly didn't hate it - but I was intrigued by it.

The strangeness of the Navidson house was something I would think about for months after reading it.
